Hi Norm, yes, definitely a hone and ring end gap 10-15 thou. There is a special tool for the starter pin, well actually there's 2 for the 2 different pin types, of which i have neither. A cold chisel and a hammer works for me and like speedy said "a tap and they usually come off pretty easy".
A liberal dose with oil on reassembly and make sure you coat the new head gasket with oil when re-assembling so it doesn't burn out after a few hours of use.
