Good Evening ODK Members,

This post shows how to fit an electronic ignition module in place of the points and condenser set up.

I could not get the points to clean up and was having trouble getting the gap correct due to wear so decided to try an electronic conversion. Tested the coil using my IMRIE and this one would spark a gap of 6-8 mm. The kit is around $20 off EBay or similar store and comes with all you need, it is for the Victa 2 Stroke but is pretty generic for all small engines.

I removed the existing points and condenser and then sorted the wires. Coil wire and kill wire soldered onto connector and heat shrink insulation applied. I fitted a new Victa HT lead as well.
The green goo was sealant that covered the original screw and lead. I opted to solder the new HT lead direct to the tab. The screw into the end of the lead is not a great idea.

I put a cable tie around the plastic shield just to keep it in place better.

Fitted nicely in place ready for the flywheel. See the small offset dot on the end of the crank, that lines up with the mark on the flywheel rim.

The long stroke is what you line up with the crankshaft dot. Need a good eye. Note that you don’t have to have the engine on TDC etc. just line them up and tighten the nut.

All done, started first pull and ran fine.

Hi Paul
Great video - and I suspect will help other vintage engine restores
down the track.

All very smooth running!
