That looks like $10 well spent BT - looks like barely a scratch on it.

Best of luck for the op Norm, hope it goes well

Thanks Tyler, they say it is a pretty straight forward op, be home in 2/3 days apparently.

The lady down the road had hers done a few weeks ago and was back home 4 days later.

I was talking to her last week and her words of warning were that even though everyone thinks of getting the walker level right, and the shower seat level right, she forgot the toilet seat level. Her hubby had to race down to the living products supplier and get a seat height increaser haha.

G'day everyone,

Yes Bigted that's a great find from a scrapyard mate. The only decent one i've found at the scrapyard was a red Victa Pace PT2 mower which I got for $20. But it's a great mower, didn't need much to get it going apart from a new primer cap and seal.

Hi NormK, best of luck and all the best with the op mate.

That's a great model you got bigted and the body is like new. I wonder what decal that had and if you can make one up. I hope you have a spare magic eye as they are very useful. Probably one of the best mowers ever -for $10. I wish I could find a tip shop like that.
Good to hear of the long awaited hip operation NormK. Hopefully your hobby will be going for a while longer yet.

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

Thanks for the wishes everyone, much appreciated. Yes Tyler, I am well aware of toilet seat height problems. A couple of days ago the Dr showed me a pic of the replacement hip, looks a pretty agricultural thing, bit like a CV joint with a leg off an right angles. Not sure if it is held in place with a big circlip.

Hi Norm,

Please add my best wishes for a speedy recovery to your list as well. I'll also be thinking of you today although by now I guess you will already be in the hospital. I think of you every time I start my PT utility with one of your modified carbys.

All the best
Jeff

G'day folks,
Just want to add my best wishes for NormK on a successful op and speedy recovery.

A mate of mine [he's also my motorcycle mechanic] had a hip replacement done a couple of years back, and the latest 'anterior approach' procedure makes for rapid recovery - up and walking within a couple of days, and short rehab period. The operating table used for it looks truly weird, though!

Cheers,
Gadge

Hi,

Anyone hear how Norm is getting on. Should be home now if all went well with his op.

Just wondering

Hi everybody,
thanks for the wishes, all good, got home yesterday afternoon. Got up yesterday morning wasn't sure if I could get dressed, managed that , got my gear together, got on my crutches, went to the nurses station and told them I was leaving and if they wanted to sign me out, fine,if not I was just walking out, couldn't handle the place anymore. Excellent hospital, excellent nurses, just bad patients and their families. I spent a lot longer in hospital because it was 7 days before they finally got the pain management team involved and once they put me on Ketamin I got instant relief. What a beautiful drop of stuff that is. No bending and lots of restrictions for a couple of months so not much will happen in the mower department for a while. Looking forward to getting back to getting a few more Victas up an firing again

Welcome back Norm

Glad to hear you are home and going well. It's silly they always wait ages until they get the management team on the case

Back when I had leg surgery in 2015, I got 2 nurses offside early on. Nurse 1 I said a few choice words to (apparently) whilst under anesthetic, nurse 2 wanted me to get up myself and go to the bathroom 9 hr after surgery, as opposed to the bottle type thing they were giving me previously. I said that I either get another bottle, or I go where I lay. Didn't talk to me much after that. But the rest were very nice.

I think I still have the ketamine tablets in the fridge - they do good work. laugh

Anyway, hope you can find something good on TV, or a book. Interesting new show on ABC at 5.15pm called 'the repair shop,' where they restore antiques and mechanical things.

Regards
Tyler

Thanks Tyler,

I let fly big time on a few occasions due to bad patients or their self centered abusive families. I told one family who were giving one of the nurses a hard time that if they didn't like what was going on to then take their mother to a private hospital and pull out their credit card. The big problem for me was the old women, mostly from aged care with mostly broken hips. I was in a 4 bed ward and most of the time the other 3 beds were occupied by these women, mostly suffering from dementia and no idea where they were. I didn't see an older man in there in a similar condition. Was a bit of an eyeopener and I feel so sorry for the nurses who have to endure this situation on a daily basis. I feel the medical profession has a lot to answer for in creating this situation of prolonging life way past a person enjoying quality of life

I saw quite a few abusive families whilst in several different hospitals last year after Mum's cancer diagnosis (fortunately in remission now), but by far the worst are the doctors themselves - tearing strips off the nurses for little things being 0.5 hour late changing the fluid drip, etc.
