Afternoon all
Thought this might be of interest to someone

Looks like a bit of a bitsa, but has what appears to be an intact catcher, good alloy deck and apparently runs. Pretty good deal for $30

Regards
Tyler

Hi Tyler and Norm
Looks to be an early 1970s VC Sports base with a 1980s SPFC off a Commando steel base mower. It has different handlebars too. It certainly modernises it with that PT looking engine cover.

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

G'day everyone,

That's a good one Tyler, but gees mate if that thing still had the original "Commando" decal on that cowl, you know I would be like this guy in the video you posted in the other thread! LOL! laugh

Cheers!

G'day gents,
Yeah, that's one of mine, i sold it to that guy last year.
That was a kerbside find, got it as you see it, definitely a bitsa but a good solid mower that just needed a good service at the time.
Whoever buys it will get another 40 years out of it!

I would grab it if it was closer and it is too difficult for me to get in and out of the car at the moment

I don't like that top sitting so high. The lower aerodynamic looking Sabre/Corvette or Corsair top would make that mower attractive and fit under shrubs better.
The flash looking white Mustang SPFC cover or the black Powerplus version used on the self propelled could be made to fit using drill screws. The base is the same.

All good BT.
MF, even though it is nearly a 3 hour round trip, sometimes you just can't help yourself and pain becomes irrelevant crazy

What are you going to do with it? Part it out?

Base looks good, catcher is a bit ratty, so yes I will probably just take the motor and put it on a slasher or maybe just a standard pressed metal base. Starts and runs fine, just a pity that I pick these high arch ones that we all know the catchers are pretty fragile. I think I have at least 2 24inch slashers that need motors so big chance it will end up on one of those. Either way there is no urgency with those at least not till at least October

Happy for you NormK, but isn't that over your budget?
Someone restoring a VC Sports would be drooling to take the base and use the matching red catcher for display purposes.

MF, for $20 I think it is a good deal even just for a good running sidepull that can go straight on a 24 inch slasher even though the round trip cost me over 4 hours with a visit to catch up with BT and check out all his mowers, makes mine look pretty insignificant laugh

Good to see you got it Norm - great the engine will live on on a 24 smile.

MF, funny you should say that because there is a VC sports in melb for $20, but it's looking a bit ratty

Here's another $10 mower from one of my scrappy's for all you 2 stroke lovers out there.
This one had a loose starter which was causing it to not start.
Again, probably one of the best Victa has made.
