Hi guys
The serial sb man is at it again!!
Looking at possibly getting myself a 590 diplomat for one of my next restos (pending opinions)
1-How easy are parts to get hold of for this model?
2-what should I be paying for it? (will add a photo) have seen a few for what I think is too much $$$ is it just the sb logo making peeps want silly money?! does not run as far as he is aware!
3 are these actually any good!!! I have a fenced garden that I thought may suit the rear catcher better than my 45!

Cheers for any input
Ollie

Tell you what ollie, you restore the 590 and I'll begrudgingly take the 20 inch machine off you as it's obviously an inferior machine compared to a 590.

Cheers,
BB.

Hi Ollie81

I would be sticking to the 45 as parts are available. As far as I'm aware parts are not available for the 590 unless you find a parts machine which doubles your price, the engine on the other hand is easy enough to obtain parts or a engine swap is the other solution if it's just an engine problem, main thing to make sure if you buy one is that it has a catcher other wise its worthless. I think price point today is a silly question to ask as it's hit and miss pending on the seller, if it's cheap and you don't jump on it straight away it will be gone in 60 seconds and if it's overpriced it will sit for weeks untill they drop the price or some desperate person can't be bothered fighting the vulchers who sit online watching the classifiers 24/7. I personally think with today's market $150.00 would be tops if running but hey i don't pay more than $50.00 for any machine not running, there currently is a Lawn King model 33 rusted to buggery down the road from me asking $1,000 so what do you class a good price?
I understand your logic for the 590 to get close up to the fence by not having the catcher at the front but I would still go the 45, there's a reason the 45 is more sort after than a 590 and why it was still made up untill 9 years ago.

BS

Thanks guys for input the 45 is a go already got 2 14” at the Blaster’s just someone contacted me today regarding the two mowers 590 and a 17” 45! I have seen a few 590s about on sale sites but always up around 3-350 but always thought they had better accessibility than 45 if o can get i cheap enough I may buy it! But no doubt it will find its way on a sale site if I don’t was hoping the 17 was a solid!! Then I would have got that!

The 20” is waiting in line for me to gain a bit of experience before I tackle it!

Again thanks
Ollie

I would of thought the market price would be cheaper in Adelaid, I know on the east coast you can pick up some decent 45's for $300-$350. I would imagine that a 590 would be way cheaper than a 45, whats and average price for a 45 in Adelaid these days. I kind of got this feeling that there's a trend that people are trying to collect every model SB available as there's no reasoning between price and models it's like the kids who collect those Coles and Woolies promotion gimmicks.

Everyone wants big $$$ for the Scott Bonnars!!
I picked up 1 14” twin for $100 and a solid for $170 who knows if I overpaid or not I was happy with price little bit rough round the edges and solid was missing some bolts!!
There are lots listed here for ridiculous prices there’s a load of rough machines up atm for 350-650!!

Hi Guys,

Then there's twats like this,

https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/prospect/lawn-mowers/scott-bonnar-20-model-45/1217459553

or this,

https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/torrensville/lawn-mowers/scott-bonnar-20-supercut/1218872543

It just keeps on getting sillier and sillier every day with people thinking everything that has the SB name on it is made of Gold.

Cheers,
BB.

How long can it keep going? And when are people going to say enough is enough, I may have to insure mine soon with Shannons.

Hi BS,

It'll keep going as long as idiots have long arms in shallow pockets, and that isn't going to be any time soon I feel.

Cheers,
BB.
