Hi Members,

Looking for assistance in i.d’ing this ride on. I removed the rear axle assy for my project, just need to know what it is in case I need parts (if parts are still available that is)

Hope everyone had a great day!

Many thanks,

Blended, no idea what it is but that gearbox drive I would assume is horizontal on top of the box and that is not going to be an easy mate up with a motorcycle drive sprocket which is vertical

As far as I know this ride on is a MTD.

I have one out the back garden with the 3 bolt pattern for the rear wheels,I bolted up quad bike wheels
to the back axle. My ride on just has forward and reverse gears with a 8hp engine.

Norm the rear axle has a sprocket all you do is remove the gearbox and connect the chain from the
bike engine to the rear sprocket..Probably best to remove the diff spin it 180 degrees so the sprocket
is on the same side as the bike engine.

Evening Norm, Max!

Thanks for the replies gents, appreciate the feedback.

Norm, i left (what i figured was) the gearbox mounted to the chassis, it had the front sprocket on it and what looked like (similar too) a small transfer case? I only removed the axle assembly, wheel to wheel.

Max, My understanding was that the diff was separate to the gearbox? I was opting for this set up over a solid axle for obvious reasons?

Your on the money though regarding flipping the axle over.

Will post pics in my build thread.

Thanks again gents!

Hello Blended and Norm

Here are a few MTD ride on mowers with the same parts as the blue ride on.

The old Victa ride on mowers use a lot of the same parts as the blue ride on but
not all of the parts are the same.

So it's definitely a MTD made mower but I don't know the exact date of build or the original model name. (import from America)

I would say it's circa 1970s

Cheers
Max.

No problem Jack, Blended.

Found a few more images for the records.

The differential was removed from the MTD mower in the image (solid rear axle) It's got the CIG locker now.

Cheers
Max.

Hi Blended

The Victa 8-34E (MTD) just shows the parts in common with the blue MTD.

The E on the end of 8-34 stands for electric start ,I would say your blue MTD has never had a battery.

In the below image of the blue MTD I have circled the position for the pull start cord and handle the
8-34E would not have this modification.

The Victa MTD mowers are red.(of this type)

Rear wheels on the 8 hp red Victa ride on mowers do not bolt on the same as the blue MTD. (see pic below)

I've only seen two of these blue MTD ride on mowers and both are missing the model name but we
know the manufacturer is MTD..

From wikipedia.
MTD Products is an American manufacturer of outdoor power equipment for the mass market. Headquartered in Valley City, Ohio, USA, the company began in 1932 and is a family-owned, private company. It originated as a tool and die maker (Modern Tool and Die Company). MTD's main competitors are Stihl, Ariens, Snapper Inc., John Deere and Husqvarna.

Over the years, MTD acquired the Troy-Bilt, Bolens, Cub Cadet, and Yard-Man brands and/or companies. MTD also private labels for other brands, including Sears Craftsman, under the "247" model prefix.

In 1975 MTD purchased the Yard-Man name from Montgomery Ward.

Cheers
Max.

Morning Max,

What a great post. Thank you so much for sharing this.

Whilst I.D'ing this wasn't critical, i did want to know what components i was using in my build and if needed possibly source parts for the axle rebuild.

I now feel that CBC will be my first stop should i need to replace a bearing or seal.

Thanks again for the detailed replies, i very much appreciate the time taken to make these posts.
