Hi I have this model 40 and have no real idea what it’s worth? I really wouldn’t mind doing a resto on it but it is going to cost a fair whack!! And just about to have child number 2 don’t want to rub wife up theme wrong way? What value does anyone see in this to give me an idea? Don’t know if the fact it’s a low number has any role in value! Thanks
Sadly ollie, as you've probably now worked out these are worth absolutely nothing when it comes to Dollars.
The Scott Bonnar scene is all about the Model 45 and nothing else. Plenty have had their fingers burnt playing with all the other more obscure models over the past few years.
Any way this thread shouldn't really be in off topics, rather it should probably be in the "For Sale" sub-forum.
Basically we are not really getting into offering valuations on this forum anymore as we'd be doing this all day long for every flipper that's bought a machine on Saturday morning and wanting to flip it by Monday morning.
Sorry that this isn't very informative to you but that's pretty well the stance we've taken here regarding money.
Cheers, BB.
I live a 24 Hour lifestyle, but every now and again I seem to fall asleep, well at least that's what my wife tells me.
My mower isn’t for sale but trying to work out whether it is worth renovating for my future use or if it worth more to someone who may need parts, so I can then go and find myself a 45, I came by this mower by accident and couldn’t resist as have been looking for a reel for a while but the right machine is a bit allusive
To put it quite simply, we're not going to get involved with any type of valuation here on this site. Your best solution here is having a look at past sales on eBay and that will give you a pretty good idea overall.
From my personal point of view it isn't worth more than a few dollars as Model 40's are just not sought after in any way. These are not to be compared with the Model 45 in any way when discussing money. It's like comparing apples with strawberries.
Best of luck with it.

It is like all things that get put up for sale, stuff that has a cult sort of status always pull good dollars and then the next level always comes down to what someone will pay for it and then that is largely controlled by "is it working" and what repairs are needed to get it working. Restoring mowers can never be viewed in the "is it worth my while doing it" because I can assure you it never is, it is only done for personal satisfaction and a feeling of achievement
That’s good thanks for advice it may just see me restoring this on a budget as it is really just stripping cleaning and painting and sourcing a catcher! which will be good practice if/when I find a 45!
So I see we've now moved on to selling it as you've placed it on Gumtree ??
This is my exact point about us here not giving out valuations as we just can't be seen as getting financially involved, basically it's a conflict of interest for us. That's where the Facebook pages come in to play, something we don't want to be a part of. No disrespect intended BTW.
Cheers, BB.

Nah that’s fair enough, and no I’m not selling it, I have fit a catcher on to it and shall hopefully be running over my lawn in the morning! All going well I shal rub it down give a lick of paint and see how many more years of service I get get out of the old girl!
