Hi all,

Please note that this thread relates to another post of mine, but for clarity of searching I've started a new thread. Once I have a solution here I'll update my original post.

Not sure if any of you have seen anything like this before. I noticed 2 issues with this mower and though they both related to the pull starter. One was the spring would sometimes not catch or the pulley would spin but the engine would not, and the other was that when trying to pull start the engine would catch and become very difficult to rotate, almost as if there was intense compression.

I disassembled the mower today, thinking it could be the flywheel and magneto hitting each other. First, I found that the blade disc nut was put on the wrong way and was very loose. I also found that, with sufficient gap, the flywheel was difficult to rotate. What could have been doing it..?

I removed the boss and pulled off the flywheel and found a steel weight. The flywheel had a slot for the weight to sit in, and there was also a pin, I assume to wedge it in. I found that in the slot there was a lot of dirt and grass so I cleared that out. After putting the weight and pin back in, they held solid. However, after using the rattle gun to put the blade disc back on, they had come loose again..

Has anyone experienced this before? What method did you use to secure the weight and pin? Keeping in mind that I don't want to add a lot of weight, because the weight is there to counterbalance the magnet on the other side.

Cheers in advance,

pau13z

I have had this experience with a tecumseh OVRM120 engine. The iron weight had come out and smashed most of the blower fins. The securing wedge had gone. I haven't had this problem with any of the victa 2 strokes though.

Don't know never seen one do that before, I would be inclined to put silicone in the bottom of the hole and when you push the weight in the silicone will squelsh up the sides and the same with the pin. Silicone is very strong in a sandwich situation between 2 layers of steel

Hi all,

Thanks for your feedback. I was thinking that Norm, I was thinking either silicone or possibly Loctite Metal Magic. Metal Magic has a faster cure time but is heavier, so I'm a little torn.

Either way, I'll put the weight in with the hole side down. That way between the hole and the grooves in the bottom of the weight cavity it should hold firm. I'll let you know how I go.

Cheers,

Paul, silicone would be my choice, much cheaper and cure time, put silicone in leave over night and it will never move, I doubt you want to cut the grass tonight.

I already had the Metal Magic so I used that, I didn't have any silicone on me.

Looks to have worked so far, but I haven't kicked the mower over yet. Any issues with this fix and I'll come back here. For now I'm heading back to my original post for further updates.

Cheers!
