This ad extols the Powertorque engine in a humorous way
.

One of these red Vortex's has become available for sale in Adelaide overnight for $150

And I sold mine for $80, and I would never expect to see one in that condition again, but I had to continue to reduce the stockpile of mowers here

I'd love to find a yellow Vortex in 1985 or even the $80 red Vortex condition.
The only way I can get the cover on mine looking as spiffy as the commercial is to rub it down, bog it where the cord has cut into it and paint it.

Hahaha classic stuff here! grin

The first ad Mowerfreak, this reminds me of the little local mower shop where they are still around to this day and I still sometimes go there for parts. Not too many old school style mower shops still around these days. I have seen 2 close down around here in the last 10 years or so.

The Rover ad with Norm is a classic Mowerfreak, now I remember Norm from all those "Life Be In It' ads from the 80's?, but I never knew Norm did an ad for Rover lawnmowers, classic! laugh

As for the last ad from Maxwestern, I don't remember ever watching this ad on Australian tv and at the end it shows that it's from the UK, but it sure is a classic! I wonder what the Australian version of this ad would have been like? Mow and trim your map of Tasmania? lol

Also check out this old Victa ad, can you spot something odd in this Victa commercial?

cheers2

In the above "Victa 1991 Ad" if you notice when the lawnmower is moving from left to right of screen at around 16 seconds into the video clip, they are showing the lawnmower "mirrored", ever seen a Victa powertorque lawnmower with the head and carby sitting on the opposite side of the mower?

I wonder why they done that? Couldn't they have just shown the mower going the other way on screen to show that side of the mower?

Or it's just a mistake and they didn't pick it up?

Oh well who knows.

Cheers!

Probably did it in editing to make the mower more interesting to the average viewer, who knows?
Yes, I did notice it right away and knew what you were talking about. I loved the jingle -a long lost memory.
What was the noise the beaten up Rover was making?
A sneaky jibe to their rival by the way.
Wish I had another ad to link to.

Hi Maxwestern that Shell V Power ad is pretty funny, but I reckon we could have done the same ad with a Victa 2 stroke no problems...lol wink

Hey Mowerfreak, ahh those good old Rovers, they look like the ones that I have seen dumped on nature strips a while ago. I tell ya what I think they made their bases darn strong though. Even dumped on nature strips the red bases stand out miles away...lol

Cheers!

Here's a good old Victa ad from 1986. You know why don't they make ads with jingles like they used to anymore? Ahh the good old days.

Well today us old school collectors and tinkerers can say "I'm glad I trash picked a Victa?" Well you have to if you want a classic aussie 2 stroke!...LOL!

I used to say "glad I nicked a Victa". In a way I have, from the rubbish skip of a mower shop!
My best finds from a mower shop was a 1974 VC Mustang with good catcher included that started straight away. Another time I found a good VC 160 (no catcher this time) with the smoothest 160 engine I ever had. The handles didn't vibrate at all, even on low idle. Now that was the good old days -early 2000s.

Hey Mowerfreak, with my VC160 I haven't started it in a while but I don't think it's idle is that smooth. But on my full crank side pull Commando, it's got a fat lazy lumpy idle that rocks the mower and handles from side to side..lol. Awesome!

I actually love it! It looks and sounds tough, almost like a classic V8 muscle car! grin

Hey Maxwestern, Yes I also seen some of those Rovers in this ad with those stainless steel looking wheels on the side of the road years ago. Again these bases seem tough and built to last.

Check out this Victa ad from the early 80's. Imagine the sound of 100 Victa full cranks all starting at the same time? LOL! What a symphony! Then i'm also thinking about that massive mushroom cloud of smoke rising from that place! Haha! Classic!
