I usually walk away from these but I have a number of these L head Briggs 375 type motors that start up ok but once they settle down they start hunting on the governor. Swapping carbies around doesn't seem to solve the issue. I have checked the valves on a couple and they seem fine.

I just had a similar problem Norm.

The only way to remedy it is with a tachometer.
I tried by ear, no improvement.

I followed this page, slackened the little secondary spring, got 2800 by the primary, then tensioned the secondary until 3000 was achieved.

Worked perfectly.
I was amazed

Regards
Tyler

Thanks Tyler, could be, none of these have the secondary spring, but from memory most of the ones I have seen don't have it, but it makes sense that it might balance it out. I will see if I can find one of the springs and see if it settles them down

Lol, I thought the heading meant you were after a particular Briggs motor. laugh

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!
