Jeff I have paid $200 for a running 24, some cheaper but often $80/$100 is about the figure. One I paid $50 for but by the time I went and picked it up it ended up a 7 hour return trip
Trailer is the answer MF, no heavy lifting required, drop the tailgate push down on the handle, front wheels onto the tailgate, lift mower and push forward, done in a couple of seconds
Hi Jeff in answer to your earlier question about standing a PT upright, no reason why it couldn't be done but it would require a different inlet manifold that had the locating tabs on it turned 90 degrees
I paid $95 for the one I have here. It was running but not very well and It looks like its been out in the weather a bit. I thought that was expensive but there were no others anywhere close. I did not try to barter at all. Probably could have got $10 off.
Jeff I paid $20 for the one I just pulled the Briggs off, Gadge put me onto that one but it was a fair drive to the Morwell tip to pick it up and a bloke just picked his mower up that I had fitted that Briggs on. I never expected that it would ever run, obviously had been out in the weather for a very long time, but it starts and runs well so he went away a happy man. My mate paid $275 for his. He thought that was a bit expensive when I pointed it out to him but now he loves it, his mower of choice. Before he bought it he asked me why an old mower like that was so expensive and all I said to him was "because they are good." My grandson bought 2 one he paid $80 for it but big end was gone when I got it running, the second he paid $120 for it and that one was in pretty good condition and obviously had not done massive work. A bloke was here with one yesterday I had to fix a wheel on it and when he had it in his ute at work before coming over the maintenance manager spotted it and his only comment was "now that is the real deal"

Morning Fellas My grandfather has a super 24, loves it! we made up an adaptor plate to put a honda 5hp on it years ago. he is in his 70's now and still uses it. have the original engine in a box somewhere (i think)

Looks like there are a few more 24's about. They definitely fit those factory PT's north south. They are using a Utility cowl but the slots are crossways. Oh well I have got it wrong. I thought it looked better the other way with the slots North South like every other PT. I would love to see their sliding plates although the base is probably different.
I did originally look at that way of fitting mine but its not easy as the slots seem to line up almost perfectly with one of the PT bolts, the long one. I think you could probably do without that long one as there are still three others and they would be fine. The pulley would be interesting as well.
I was hoping for a factory look for this conversion but it seems I will be disappointed. They are grey now not orange as well and I am certainly not going to paint over that excellent orange paint they use.
I have gone too far now with my first attempt at a sliding plate. I will try it and see how it goes. I'll keep you all posted, Maybe even a photo. I have the engine sitting on the base with the new sliding plate now. I think it looks fine. Still waiting on lathe tools for the pulley.
That other 24 looks good too. A top starter engine with the same sliding plate as mine. Well worth $100 I think. Where is 2210? No where near Brisbane or Eden that's for sure.
It is in Sydney Jeff I had seen it but didn't mention it because you were going the PT way and being in Sydney was too far for me. I don't think you have much choice as to which way the motor goes because of the existing slots in the base. Yes the one I sold last month was a grey base with originally a Briggs on it. In hindsight I probably should have put a PT on it and then I would have had all the information on what was what

Interesting that the Briggs was original fitment on that 24; I wasn't sure of that, when I looked it over.
Those Briggs Quantum 50 series 190cc models seem to be a lot better engine than I'd really expect of a sidevalve with a plastic camshaft; I have one on a Masport alloy chassis Maxicatch 550 - it's my 'everyweek mower'. The US built ones, at any rate - mine's one of those.

Hi Gadge, no the Briggs was not an original fit, it was a real bush job that had been jacked up on a bit of plate but it did what it had to do. I have now cut a hole in the center of it so I can fit and remove a motor on it with the pulley still on it. Took me about 7 hours to remove the motor and get the pulley off. Easy when you put things together and weld bits in place and getting those rusty pulleys off in situ can be a real pain.
On looking at that factory PT 24 again, I notice that the carburetor is upside down as it has to be to fit the snorkel that way. Interesting that they did that even in the factory. Nothing wrong with it I suppose.
Also, that looks to be a special snorkel. With my idea I think any PT snorkel will fit. I'm hoping to get it so that any PT will fit straight on, without even taking the blade boss off.
Hi Jeff another advantage with that carby, it can be swapped around depending on what mower it was being fitted to. Once you get it set up ant PT will fit it is still the cowl that might look a bit wrong
What do you mean the whole mower looks a bit wrong? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and anybody who has used a Super 24 will find a way to think they are beautiful.
Thanks for the video. Good views of a factory PT24. It looks like they do not actually need a sliding plate anymore. They must let the PT bolts slide straight in the base. Base must be quite different to mine.The belt tensioner in the front is a good idea.
