G'day Max
Many thanks for the Conquest images Max!
Yep, this mower has had little attention here.

Introduced in late 1963, this was Turner's first rear catcher machine.
This mower was Turner's response to the Victa Ambassador, and, particularly,
the new Corvette. I think the Turner was priced a smidgen below the Corvette!

I think the Turner matched the Victa for most features, but were inferior to the master!.
The 1964 Victas must have shocked Turner.

An amusing story is told by Graeme Plaw, a design engineer and
Project Engineer for a variety of Turner products at this time. He said:-

"One early season we were caught short, Victa had introduced a new model and our design needed something to differentiate it. No time to retool so I introduced a rubber grommet into the top of the base so that you could fit the hose and flush clear the inside of the base. A silly idea, did not work well, was used on one model only, however I have seen it used on other mowers since."

I think Turner 'shadowed' Victa in the early 1960s, but surpassed Victa
1960s designs with its revolutionary high arch mowers and poly catchers
a couple of years' later.

Then, Victa had to catch up, and boy, did they!
Took them a while though smile

Cheers

Gidday Jack,
Thanks for the information here and that's the clearest image I have seen of the squarish starter cover in the Sunday Telegraph November 3rd 1963 advert. (muchas gracias)

The Conquest badge needs a little restoring ,it's showing signs of many collisions.

The throttle control doesn't looks original in the below image.

One more observation ,I have always thought the catcher looks of Morrison design.(I will upload the catcher images soon)

Cheers
Max.

Hi Max
Many thanks for the insights.

Yep, totally agree about the louvred catcher design.

It is my belief that both Turner and Scott Bonnar (later) took
design cues from the great NZ company Morrison.

Rover, also, would use these louvres on their steel side-catchers.
Another approach was the use of round or square hole steel mesh.

I don't think too many of those Turner Morrison rotaries survive.

Gidday Jack,

Here is the Turner catcher on the Masport mower it's just missing an insert on the catcher when it's fitted to the
Masport mower.

Last image is a Masport catcher image from ODK.

I have only seen a few images of the Turner Morrison rotaries ,must be very rare these days.

Cheers
Max.

Hi Max
I think the similarity is pretty conclusive.

Many thanks for this new piece of information.

G'day Jack

This Morrison advert has a good example of the catcher.

Cheers
Max.
