Victa Powertorque engine, starts no issues, does not idle properly, revs too high when throttle is moved to idle position. I have done the following things, replaced the crankcase 'O' ring, replaced both the carburettor manifold seals, replaced the red diag. spring with the standard one, tried 3 different diaghpragms (if thats how you spell it), added one shim to the throttle slide post, adjusted throttle control, and the poppet valve is set to 'C'. Any ideas on this one people. Assistance greatly appreciated.

I have just discovered another post about a Victa Tornado over-revving and the reply, I will investigate this first as it looks to be good information. Cheers all.

Micky this is one thing that Victa fluffed out on, but it is fixable and then you can have one of the best mowers ever built

One thing that does intrigue me is that it is always the Powertorques that had this over revving problem, can't say I have heard of the full cranks fitted with the G4 carb having this problem

G-day Micky and Norm, recently replaced a muffler on a Powertorque alloy base from about 1987 I found recently and it cured it's overevving at the same time, though throttle modulation could be better. It can't be made to rev low. It's either medium high or full throttle. I'm grateful it otherwise works well. Maybe check the muffler. The one I removed had a hairline crack all around the entry port of the muffler.

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

What it comes down to is if you can control the opening of the poppet you can control the revs, it is that simple

It might be positioned at the wrong mark? Might need to check that out.

I'm not overly convinced about the "C" mark, I set them up on that but sometimes the poppet moves as I am getting it set up and once I get the plastic cap on forget to check that it is in the right position. As I said as long as you get the poppet to open and shut it is no different to getting a butterfly or slide to open and shut, that is the component that controls the revs.

Hi Mowerfreak,

Where did you get the muffler and how much? I have one with a noisy muffler but I was thinking not economical to buy a new one although I have not priced them. The mower has other issues, needs a carby mod at the minimum but starts easily but has been banned at home because its too noisy. I have not pulled it down yet. Might just be the muffler hold on clips. What does everyone do about mufflers?

Jeff I got a muffler for $20 at the local mower shop but in the case of my mower I put on a scavenged one off a seized motor as it had plenty of stuffing. It worked great. The new is in storage as a spare.
