My little 10 inch chainsaw started loosing power when I was using it yesterday, starts easily and revs no problem but while cutting it starts loosing power, doesn't cut out but the revs drop and so the chain stops. This saw was only bought to do one job and that job was done so I have no issue with the machine because it was very cheap so I am not too interested in spending much time fixing it. It has probably had 6 tanks of fuel in it but my thoughts are that this is a fuel delivery problem possibly with the fuel filter restricting the flow at revs. Anybody have any thoughts and getting to the fuel filter may just not be worth the effort involved

Wouldn't be one of those adorable little saws made by Ozito would it? Sounds like it may just need a tune.
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

Hello NormK, I bet it's a great little chainsaw, with just a hiccup happening at the moment. Being the learner that I am, I'm feeling a little cheeky replying to your forum, but I'm learning and that's so good. Being a 2 Stroke, I'm assuming that it would have a Carburettor that would have one of those plastic needles in it, have you looked at the needle, as you taught me about this little item and also what a Carburettor actually was.

It is a TDKMAN I also bought a TDKMAN post hole digger last year from the same mob, look very well made and the saw is a great little machine, obviously something is fouling the fuel flow. I was going to have to hire a scissor lift $400 to do the job or $90 for the saw so I bought the saw so any work I have used it for after that has been a bonus but now I kinda like using it on small jobs. I'm now thinking of giving a cordless a go, seems to be the way everything is headed. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Baumr-A...ic-Pruner-10-Oregon-Garden/132014024198?Sorry Sherrie, you popped in while I was typing, no it is a completely different setup, but you are on the money with it being a problem with fuel flow. My problem is i don't have the time to fiddle with it because the replacement cost is so low.

Hi NormK, hey, that's fine, and I did feel a little cheeky replying as I said. I've just looked at the Weblink you had on your previous message. The cordless chainsaw had some reviews, and the review on the length of running time of that battery doesn't seem to be very long. When we were trying to sort out the fuel line for our little chainsaw, the Mower Shop had a few Lawn mowers that were battery charged, and the Mower man, stated that they didn't have much power and the battery didn't last long, before having to charge it up again. Just a thought, Regards, Sherrie.

I was told years ago that chainsaws are much harder to tune and more finicky to work on compared to other petrol equipment. Is this the experience here?

I was told years ago that chainsaws are much harder to tune and more finicky to work on compared to other petrol equipment. Is this the experience here? Not my experience at all. The only thing I found is that when tuning out of the cut they need tune to where they slightly 4 cycle and the internal carburetor setting need to be spot on. Mainly the slight 4 cycle tuning is to offset the slight stiffing on the metering diaphragm as they change some after they become fuel soaked. When with some other hand held 2 cycles this happens as I peak the rpms to just find a day later they are running too lean if I don't. Usually about a 1/8 turn rich after peak. Some today's 2 cycles have speed limiters and to slow the engine they need to tuned on the rich side especially the Stihl line. The airhead (stratified) versions can be a little picky until you learn their tuning requirements. Of course I work on several units every month so I have a lot experience in doing these and it has become a normal habit now when tuning this units. The best thing I did was the purchase of the ultrasonic cleaner that I use as these 2 carburetors (mostly cubes) do need a through cleaning and either a full carburetor kit installed or at least the needed part replaced and the metering lever set correctly. Now of course my first UC was on the small size and I out grew fairly quickly. I stated with 2.5L then 6L and I currently running a 10L as needed the extra space for larger carburetors as I got into ATVs. My biggest problem is the plasticize fuel lines either hardening or softing. Although the Tygon lines are good whenever I can install Nitrile rubber lines; just seems to hold up much better with the additives they in the fuels and fuel oils today. Just it line is rubber does mean it will work as there different rubber line out there too and some are not compatible with gasoline.

NormK check the muffler for a spark arrester that may be clogged from the engine running rich. Also here we are now getting catalytic mufflers that can become clogged if then isn't tuned properly. Another you can do is the pull the muffler and check it the cylinder condition.

Ok just as an update on this saw what I have found it is obviously fuel starvation, the problem only happens when the saw is tilted backwards/horizontal, cutting with the bar facing slightly downwards it works fine so I guess that is the way I will continue to use it.
