Hi all .. I was given an old trimmer recently... Homelite HK-18S-A with a Kawasaki TD-18 motor... Unfortunately line holder/spool and nut are missing... As it starts and runs OK, I was interested to see if it was worth the effort/ cost of tracking down the missing pieces.
The motor appears tiny in comparison to my other machines.
Ken.

Probably not worth tracking spares as most of from the OEM is no longer when I lookup the Homelite HK-18. Homelite as a company has been brought and sold several times since the '70's. I don't even see any aftermarket trimmer heads here in the US for it.

I have fitted different heads to line trimmers but it is very time consuming and having to turn up various pieces to get them to fit properly but at the end of the day it is just not worth the hours spent

G'day kenny_t,
As AVB says, chasing OEM parts will be difficult - some are available from US suppliers, but postage is a killer there.
FWIW, you can download an IPL from https://www.leonschainsawpartsandrepair.com/parts-diagrams.html

Your best bet might be to try a 'universal fit' string head, that comes with several shaft adaptors. A search on eBay Oz for 'speed feed trimmer head' will find a few - the 3.75" size is correct for an 18cc trimmer.

You will first have to determine the diameter, pitch and hand [i.e. LH/RH] of the shaft thread, though.

If it is a left hand thread, it will likely be metric, and these are the easiest to find heads for.

Cheers,
Gadge

Thank's guys..
I finally got around to cleaning the crud off the head yesterday... To my surprise, It seems that the flanges that hold a blade are still with it... Seeing that none of my other shaft trimmers have their flanges... this machine will be fitted with a blade.
I would assume that the threaded adaptor is replaced with a nut...in this case an M8 x 1.0 LH thread.

btw..The HK-18 on Leon's page is different to mine as far as the head and carby (Jap)

Ken
