Hello,

I've been away from the forum for awhile and have just found out there is now a subscription charge of $5.

I was happy to pay, so I paid via PayPal. I ended up paying $6.74 because the $5 subscription was in US Dollars.

Is this correct or did I do something wrong?

If it is actually $5 US, I believe it would be best to update the costs to Australian dollars as I believe most of us are Australian?

Cheers!

Happened to me as well. It would be nice to be informed prior to finding out after the fact.

I guess the "dot com" (not "dot com dot au") suggests the webpage is based/hosted in America?

G'day all
Yes, my understanding is that the site is hosted from the USA.
I also feel it should be made clear that price is in US dollars.

I will contact Bruce and see whether we can make this clear.
It's still cheap-as-chips, but that is not the point you all make.

Cheers

G'day Jack, G'day all,,

Jack, your second point is the one I'd like to pick up on. It's dirt cheap no matter what the currency. Five Aussie dollars, five Yankee dollars, five euros, five pommie pounds, five shiny beads, it doesn't matter, it's a negligible cost for what we get.

Cheers,

Happy to pay $6.64 or thereabouts in the day, but I think it is unreasonable to be expected to know it's in U.S dollars when the cost is described as $5.00 in an ostensibly local context. It wouldn't have hurt to stipulate with a U.S in front of it.

What can you tell me about the shiny beads? I'm interested already ...

Many thanks PRD for that honest view.
Yes, you are a Mod, but all of us act and think independently.
Our job is unpaid and largely thankless.
We are not told what to say or think.

The man they call Bruce understands this.
His desire, like ours, is to keep the forum running, long term.

Yeah, but we are not in the USA. It should be stipulated first, as it doesn't feel right to only find out after the fact.
Mowerfreak, I do understand your point.

ODK is an Australian website reflecting mostly the AUS scene.
But we have a broader agenda.

It is our intention to do this. We help all members and have an international
element that reflects the machines sold here over the years.
For example, the History Forum is trying to explain the NZ experience!

Also, for example, AVB - from Tennessee, has helped countless AUS members!

The fact that we do not stipulate where the hosting occurs seems irrelevant -
because it could change, and we are not in control of final hosting anymore
than we are in control of AUS made goods using imported products.

Bruce is after the best host that delivers the best price and offers the best
reliability to achieve that aim - it's about value to members and appeasing those
who complain about ODK asking for paid membership.

Some days, I feel we can't win with some folk.
There was no intention to deceive (you are not suggesting this).
I am asking for your understanding of the issues.

I feel Bruce will reimburse any member if they feel deceived.about hosting location.
If Aussies can supply a cheaper (local) hosting service and offer the same reliability,
let's go with them. That's my view.

I'll pay in six or seven shiny beads, as I think it's well worth chipping in a contribution. But I just thought I would share my 2 microbeads in this very minor tidbit, seeing as somebody else started a subject on it. I just felt that most reasonably thinking people would read $5.00 not to really mean +-AU $6.64!

A little late in replying.....I wasn't complaining as such, it was more of a question about the currency. I wouldn't mind paying $10 a year to help. I just believe the correct currency should be shown to avoid questions like this post and also issues with people who may get upset at paying a $1.64 more. *sarcasm* smile
