Hi, a question for the SB experts.
I picked up 2 second hand 17" reels last week. I noticed that one has a single hole drilled in the circular supports between the shaft and the blade.
In all other aspects the 2 reels appear the same except it was black and not red. Is the "holey" reel from a Scott Bonnar or maybe a Rover?
Thanks

Thanks Hi Diablo, Scott Bonnar is made by Rover for many years. Not that it could be a generic cyclinder but will do the job as Rover / Scott Bonnar do not make the cylinders anymore.

Hi Diablo and Bruce,
There are a couple of importers that are having these replacement black reels made in where else ?............................... yes China.
They are charging around the $400 mark for them.
As Bruce has mentioned, Rover which owns the Scott Bonnar name and bought the company back in 1980 haven't made any reels available as spare parts for quite a number of years.
From Rovers perspective there's no interest in the Model 45, well aren't they just so wrong with people paying absolutely stupid prices for flogged out machines and requiring bucket loads of spare parts whilst letting the Asians supply copies of running gear componentry and making a small fortune.
I'm really somewhat bemused that Rover aren't capitalising on this market and making spare available again and not taking sellers of copied items to task for breach of copyright as they still effectively own the patents for Scott Bonnar and its associated interests.
My own opinion is that the patents have expired and Rover feel that the Model 45 popularity explosion will be over as quick as it started. It seems to be in ebbs and flows I've been told from a few people within the industry.
Cheers, BB.
I live a 24 Hour lifestyle, but every now and again I seem to fall asleep, well at least that's what my wife tells me.
