Hi All,

Have got an old Greenfield Tractor 11 with a B&S 11 HP (Model 252707 Type 0172-01)
It seems to rev very very high and quite gutless when under load. Its also seems to shake the sh** out of the mower. Also get real hot real quick.

Any quick/hot tips? Hoping to fix it as opposed to replace.

Cheers,
Dave

First step - check governor to carb linkage is operating
Sounds like governor not functioning hence over-revving and lack of power

Hi,

First time posting here (been watching this forum for a while) so take what I say with a grain or two of salt,

Can you still control the engine speed at all with the throttle lever? This may indicate where the problem is.

I would definitely check the linkage between the governor and the carburetor. If you find that this linkage does not move then you will need to isolate which part is at fault by disconnecting the linkage from one end or the other.

Thanks all for responses.
Yeah its the governor. It is odd though.
I freed it up and its nice and springey at full throttle. However when the motor runs it vibrates the bit that goes into the block sort of out of the block enough to then get jammed on the throttle plate. I cannot for the life of me work out why it moves in and out so much.
