The powertorque still works because there's sufficient contact, I tried to solder unsuccessfully in situ, if I want to resolve this am I up for a new coil? Btw, Merry Christmas to all.

If it is anything like the Briggs coils here you should be able to replace the high tension lead. Here the Briggs lead are just screw in and cemented into place.

Now the fellows on your side of the Big Pond would know more about these Victas than I do since I have never seen one in person but the few coils I have on Ebay are of the type that you can replace the lead.

I learned how to do it here because of the all the mice damage ones I get in.

Yes tiger. Just unscrew the lead from the coil.............. I just used a bit og heavy duty house earth wire and it did the job. That spark lead is expensive.

Hi Tiger, if it is just that the boot has come off, they just push on I have plenty of new ones here if you get stuck, also heaps of PT coils

Thanks guys for the replies, Speedy great idea but how did you connect the house wire to the part inside the spark plug boot? Hi Norm, the high tension lead has separated from a stiff thin springgy wire inside the spark plug boot.

Tiger they just have a screw screwed into the end of the lead and the boot slips over that, somebody has used one of the spring things and they don't work as well as the screw that Victa fitted, primitive but they work well

Tiger, If it is something like this.

They usually just push into side of the high tension lead and the boot hold it in place. Like NormK said they are not very good to use. They also can cause the lead wire to at the insertion point to break and lose contact. Here I use the crimp on terminals whenever I can but I do have an open barrel crimper for doing this.

The Screw in does work well as if you ever seen any of the Honda plug boot caps that how they are attach to the leads.

I was thinking that you had area somewhere between the terminal and the coil that maybe been mouse chewed in two.

At the moment the end of the coil lead has 10 mm of stripped wire, how does it connect to the screw that you referred to Norm?

Kinda curious myself too. Plus the item link NormK posted doesn't say what size lead it is for. 5mm or 7mm diameter? Just learning... wink As if that lead is a 7mm it is a good candidate for the crimp on 90 degree terminals and rubber boot.

Ok so somebody has stripped the wire back so you can either solder a new piece of plug wire onto it then heatshrink it and it will be fine. I don't know if you can remove the wire from the coil on these, never tried. As I said if you get stuck bring it over and I can extend the wire or give you another coil.
AVB these plug caps fit the 5mm leads Victas/line trimmers etc and every Victa Powertorque motor needs a new cap because they get damaged because of where they sit on the mower
