What is the best method to remove rust from cast iron Lister diesel cylinder heads apart from sand blasting or wire brushing?

I have Googled the molasses method and it seems the molasses will remove the carbon in the cast iron and render the casting useless.

Will the electrolysis method do the same thing?

Or should I soak them in an acid?

Hi LRT, the only thing I have done with them is have them hydroblasted and that usually cost about $30 , haven't tried any other method

Molasses takes weeks, electrolysis takes hours. Get friendly with your local blaster or if you think you'll be doing a few invest in a sand blast cabinet
