It looks as though Briggs & Stratton have terminated their agreement with Daihatsu Toyota, ending an era of quality Japanese built Vanguard engines.

Briggs Brings Commitment To Commercial Engines Home

The Vanguard single cylinder engine was also built in Japan by Mitsubishi until 2007.

According to the 2016 Briggs & Stratton update seminar, all single cylinder engines are made in China with the only USA manufactured engine being the V-Twin 810 EFI engine.

Yes you are right Norm. Sadly it will be too late by the time everyone wakes up to what is happening.

Although Briggs are moving from Japan to USA, I'm sure it will then quietly move to China like the rest has.

The tightening emissions regulations are also killing the diesel auto sector as well.

Apparently Mack say the latest emissions regulation will reduce the engines life by 25% so that means it will have to be replaced sooner, which equals more emissions to actually make the vehicle.

Subaru have also decided not to continue with the boxer diesel for the same reason sadly.

All is not lost LRT we will all be driving around in electric vehicles before long, wonder when they are going to start building electric tractors. Not sure if you heard it but the wonderful Vic gruberment, after shutting Hazelwood down, have come up with a fix for our electricity shortfall, they are going to use diesel generators as back up power and not one peep from the greenies about that, so diesel must still be good

It seems John Deere are looking into it.

The thing the greenies are blind to is yes the vehicle is 'green' but it's running on power from a power station somwhere and will never be fully green if you take into account the manufacturing etc.

Of course this is all old technology as the electric car was in use since the early 1800's with a petrol-electric hybrid in 1911.

As Hazelwood being closed has already shown through the SA power failure causing the Portland smelter to come to a halt. I did a CAD course early this year with some of the workers and they're already looking for other jobs as the power failure has guaranteed the closure of the smelter in the next few years. So much for keeping jobs! When the smelter goes it will take all the other support businesses with it - it'll become a ghost town sadly.
