Hi all,

I've tried to find something on here that is a bit of a guide to look at when purchasing a lawnmower. I've found this one: https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/enc...onnar-model-45-14-reel-mower-/1164467601 but am wondering if there's something to be wary of...

You'll recall I bought a Diplomat without realising the gear issue, and so am now wary ...

Thanks in advance for any advice.

heady

Hi Heady,

You really can't go too wrong with a 14 inch Model 45, but you must consider the area mass you are mowing and if a 14 inch machine is slightly too small. Most people want either the 17 inch or 20 inch machine. I'd say that this guy is doing this as a bit of a sideline as the machine looks fresh and non used since refurbishment. At his price you may have a bit of movement and obtain it for around $400 as the 14's are not that desirable.

BTW I totally understand what you mean regarding the Diplomat.

Cheers,
BB.

Thanks BB - very much appreciated. I don't even have lawn in yet but will only have about 25-30m2 to mow in a very small front yard so the 14" would be ideal!

Hi Heady,

I'll have to agree with you on that point. My first Cylinder cut mower was a 14 inch Model 45 and to this day I still have it but have repowered it with an Orange 2.5 hp Briggs from the original 2 hp Silver Briggs that was fitted to it in 1968. It served me well on much the same size lawn area as you have, if anything probably a bit larger, but now I use a 20 inch Series 1 which is the most desirable Scotty out there, also my lawn size has tripled thus the 14 took far too long.

If you have any more questions please feel free to ask.

Cheers,
BB.
