Morning All,

There has been a lot of questions regarding the one in-between model greenfield that no one can identify. I used to work at a greenfield dealer and tried greenfield themselves, but got nowhere. The only reference I have ever found was in the back of an original parts list for a HD8 there was a reference to a HD10 drive belt and it did match with this machine.

A bit about it,
It is different to a tractor model in every way bar the initial look from a distance. and although mechanically similar to a HD8, still a very different animal
Starting at the front it is horizontal shaft, the Briggs and Stratton appears original, mine is original electric start, I have seen photos of manual start only (different dash cowl) 75 year model from memory.
The front axle is very different as the belts run under it, the pulleys are mounted way out front, similar to later anniversary models.
The deck is right hand throw 28" and very similar to a HD, the deck moves to tension the belt
At the back it gets really different.
For a start the Drive clutches are the smallest I have ever seen fitted to a greenfield. Even smaller than say an old XL5. there is a part number on the plates but i cant remember without loloking.
Drive belt part No.s are GT382 and GT383. The traction drive belt is the longest I have ever seen, it is an A section 150 something (154 rings a bell)
Now because of the very small clutch pulleys the standard reduction wasn't enough, so it has 2 reductions by chain before the back wheel. I liken this to a rover setup, and is still the only greenfield i have seen with 2 chains.
Every piece of cowling is different, the bonnet is higher, the alloy insert is a different shape, the dash cowl has to be removed to get the battery out (PITA!) and the rear cowl is completely different.
Finally I don't have any pictures of it yet, but it does have the standard tractor mounting for the dozer blade up front, one of which i finally found on Saturday for $50 and mounted it up yesterday!

I have a heap of images uploading, and will attach them later. Any questions don't hesitate to ask

Hello nath

Brilliant!
I think that Greenfield has forgotten parts of its own history.

This is important information you tell here.
I can envisage Greenfield enthusiasts salivating...
We look forward to images of the machine.

Note that you will need Full Editor mode and the Attachment Editor to add images.

Thanks but not really a big project, these photo's were taken approx 4 years ago, I have since rebuilt everything, basically restored bar paint. It was my main mower doing the weekly mowing for about 2 years until i bought a nice big John Deere. 28" cut on a acre ins't quite ideal!

I will get some current pictures on the weekend, it is complete now, I haven't even change the tyres and tubes, they all pumped up and hold air!

Nath,

I have added your pictures to the file attachments so that they are kept on file with us. We do not recommend using Potobucket, Imagshack or any of the other image storage storage sites because than can charge for storage and if you don't agree then the photo's can be removed from the forum and everyone loose in the end.

With our attachments you can place a detailed description with the image which can be more helpful to members of the forum and guest.

Here is step by step on how the system works fo file attachments:

1. In the box provided wright your detailed description and once finished go to next step.

2. Then either drag your image or select your image from your PC or Phone.

3. Then do steps 1 & 2 again until you finish with loading files.

4. Once you have finished loading press the done button and you are finished.

I hope that this is ok with you as we are looking to preserve information for all members and guest in the future. cheers2

Evening all,

Nath, you replaced a Greenie with a what?? One of those......things......I can't even bring myself to think it let alone say the words!! Oh , the horror!! :)

Seriously, I know what you mean. Every time I mow the front of my place with the 28" Greenie I gets to wishing I'd bought the old grey Fergie and slasher I was kicking the tyres on a while back.

Many thanks for the photos and information. I'll digest it all fully over the weekend.

Cheers,

That's the old 10HR!!

There's not many of those around!

If I'm not mistaken it's the first B&S powered Greenfield

I'll see what I have on it at work

Thanks

I just realised I never uploaded some 'now' pics! i will endeavour to get some this week, The old girl needs a bit of a run! Since my last post I found a Genuine Dozer blade, and it bolted right up!

That would be great Lewis, Not many people seem to know about their existence!

G'day nath,

I'd love to see those photos!

One was for sale down south recently. Would very much like to have acquired it but it was way too far away. Hope it found a good home.

Cheers,
