Nice air cleaner. Was that Rover's version of a thumb latch catcher? Hi arch base also, similar to Victa. This era of Rover was their peak imo.

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

When I first saw it I thought the air cleaner wasn't factory but it does have a B&S service sticker, even the muffler guard has a B&S name and logo on it,the thumb latch catcher seems in good condition, tight fitting, but too sure of any history. Only collecting and real interest in mowers for a short time. My collection is abit motley

I have no problem with bits added that aren't original. As long as it cuts grass reliably and safely.

Hi
My every day mower is (or was) exactly the same. Its on its third engine now, the original B&S 4hp, a second B&S 3.5 hp and currently an OHV 400 Sanli (or Chonda).

Its been a good mower (a 1979 model)

Yours might have a better engine though. Mine never had the I/C logo on it. That means cast iron bore doesn't it? If so your Briggs should go forever.

Wheels are a bit of a problem. The original cast wheels eventually break up. New (or SH) original wheels) are very expensive. I am currently running later model Rover rear wheels using the inner race of the old ball bearings to build up the shaft size.

My catcher is still working but has been repaired many times. The alloy deck is just starting to wear through where it scrapes against our brick fences. That might be the eventually be the end of the mower.

Yours looks as though it has not done much work. You are very lucky.

All the best
Jeff

G'day all
Yep, the Regal was Rover's top-of-the-line domestic lawnmower.

The 2711 certainly had a 11 Series Briggs - but not the I/C specification.
Note the up-market air cleaner cover and muffler guard used on the I/C version.

The 2711 is shown in this brochure:

IIRC that muffler is the quieter/larger 'Lo-tone' version as well, so probably an upgrade from the standard type.

As with the standard 11 series as fitted by Rover, the air cleaner under that chrome cover is a dual element version. Cylindrical paper cartridge with oiled foam sleeve pre-filter.

Cheers,
Gadge
