Hi Millzy I don't think there is any money to be made in selling these sort of mowers and it is hard to know what the hobby/collector will pay and how much he needs a certain part

G'day all Yes, unfortunately one for the specialist collector. And to think that Thomas Greens was once one of the Big Three ... Ransomes, Shanks, and Greens.

Millzy, my point exactly, SB's will sell easily because they have big following, but the odd ball ones are only picked up by collectors and they are usually careful with their dollars on initial purchase because they know a lot of dollars can be chucked at them and they are unlikely to ever mow a lawn again where the SB's can and are restored in a lot of cases just for that purpose

But i enjoy mowing the lawn albeit a rough job with my $40 cylinder mower. Neighbours dont like me with 2 strokes buzzing around. But again i wouldnt pay more than $100 complete with catcher unless in very good condition.

And if your neighbors ever complain about the bit of smoke you are putting out, just ask them how much pollution is created by the manufacture of all the new mowers that are being churned out in the Chinese factories. The pollution goes all around the world, it doesn't stay just in China. The bit of smoke you put out rates for nothing

I've heard that for the amount of pollution emitted to produce a "green" Toyota Prius is equivalent to driving around in an old V8 powered car for 20 years.

Usual ignorant people. They are doing more damage buying a fancy disposable tin junker every two years instead of taking joy in keeping a classic on the road. You are being far greener using a smelly old classic to cut the grass. You can't tell some people. Besides, cheesing those types off with two stroke music is a bonus in my books.
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

G'day folks,
The term here is 'Embodied Energy'. It's something that is talked about quite a bit in the building industry but perhaps not so much in other 'consumer' areas.
Can't confirm that figure you quoted LRT but the point is well made. The energy used to create an object is often forgotten when quoting 'energy savings advantages' to punters and that throwing out an object before it is 'beyond its useful life' is a waste of that embodied energy.
Cheers,

Yes prd, I don't know either. It proves the point though! It seems to be a keeping up with the Jonses thing. Why you need aerodynamic cowling that needs "improving" every few years and then the whole mower has to be replaced as it now looks dated. Same with today's cars. If we ever have a war and all the supplies from overseas get cut off we will be in trouble as most engineering and automotive mechanics don't know how to repair anymore as the shop labour rate makes it uneconomical to do so. According to a newsletter from Riordan fuels a couple of months ago, Australia only has 13 days of diesel in storage! That means now trains, trucks etc. Anyhow I've gone a long way off topic!

I would like to know what details the brass plate on the top cover contains, I have the same mower without the top cover.
Thanks in advance , Cockie
