Hi all, i have recently picked up a ranger XC 52155 that had been sitting in a shed for who knows how many years, and i am planning on doing a full restoration where i can on the mower. I got the mower home changed the fuel and installed the missing spark plug, charged up the battery overnight, got home from work and tried to fire it up, amazingly it fired up first try.

I have started dismantling the unit for sandblasting and spraying. The mower is missing a vital part, it has no cutting deck. I know this unit is over 30 years old but can you still buy cutting decks for these mowers. Also does any on know if i can buy a full set on decals for these mowers.

Thanks in advance for the many questions i will have, keep you all updated with more photos.

Mark

Looks nice. Put some headlights on it. Still has a modern look to it. It'll look great.

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

Hey Mark
Des from Wooroloo
Restoring an xc 11hp
I want to remove the rear wheels from the axle but havent got a clue how they come off. I can see it is keyed but theres no circlip holding it on. Any ideas. Looks like the rear wheels are the same as yours. Parts diagrams dont show my/ our model? Des

G'day Des,

As far as I remember they have a circlip ,if your one doesn't it's probably fallen off or has been removed
and not put back on because the wheel is stuck on.

In the pic below it looks to have a circlip.

People make pullers to get the wheels off.

I'd have to draw the way I remove them.the two plates the same go at the back of the wheel ,over the top of the
other one, then use a bolt in the plate at the outside of the wheel to push on the axle, two holes must be drilled
near the centre of the wheel and the 2 bolts go through.

You can also use CRC and heat.

The bolt end that pushes on the centre of the axle should be ground down so it's smaller than the axle
otherwise it can mushroom out the axle end making it a lot more difficult to remove.

Cheers
Max.

I have wondered how hard it would be to fab a new deck from sheet metal. My rear wheels were hard to get off, I kept whacking it from behind with a piece of wood and a hammer, but not on the conical section that a previous owner had done and dented it frown

For me it's not worth the time to fix ride on mowers ,I've had a lot and spent 5 days restoring them
to sell and only got back what you spent on them.Different story if you're restoring one for yourself to use.

It's just that there are so many old ride on mowers that are complete and are free to $100. that can easily be restored so why spend a lot of time fabricating parts when you can just get another complete mower with a deck for under 100.

There were a heap of ride on mowers here that some I paid $50. and I only wanted the engines for other projects and people bought the rest of the mower without a motor for $50. because the rest was good with good blades etc.

Scrap metal yards were selling complete ride on mowers for $50.

So yes you can fabricate a deck or just buy another MTD / Rover /Homelite for the deck or another ride on
to fix.

Cheers
Max
