Dear All,

I am new to the forum. I found this thread on the net while looking for the spring governor diagram for a B&S 98902 engine.

To be precise I have a 98902-0326-01 Code 94010603. Looking at the diagram at https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/u...-2772-4902-bs_98_9b_governor_springs.jpg my model is the one of Fig.96.

That said, I have the problem that once the engine starts, I don't have control at all of the revs. It seems that, not having the "idle spring", the engine revs turns to max and moving the throttle leverage produce little/no effect. In
addition to this, I think this is due to the bad condition of the governor spring.

Then, looking for a new governor spring, I bumped into the briggs&stratton parts manual which states that the correct replacement is part number 262760 (as my engine is manufactured before 1996). My doubt is that this item is for the 2 spring version, as in this manual there is no mention to a single spring engine version explicitly.

Can you please help me on this? Does anybody of you own this version of the engine?
Thanks to all in advance, and sorry for my poor English.

Cheers,
Giovanni

edit: added pic of the carburetor and spring (I know it is mounted in a reverse position, it was one of the many attempts to let it work blush )

The spring mounting is fine.

Check a couple things.

1. Make the air vane is freely moving. This requires remove the engine to check for anything that could binding it including the pivot point.
2. If the above is fine then remove carburetor and verify the throttle vane is in place.

Either one these can cause wide open throttling.

AVB, thank you for your answer.

In the weekend I will check those two points and let you know.

Hi Gio, try playing with the triangular shape plastic piece directly below the governor spring, this controls your revs and then you can see what the spring is meant to do

Hello everybody,
first of all thanks for your support. At the end I bought some spares (spring included) to change parts that were a bit deteriorated. The package arrived yesterday and in the evening I assembled almost everything.

Like AVB was suggesting, the air vane was not free to move due to an incorrect position of the engine cover. This evening I will finish the assembly of last components and I will try to start the engine.
In addition to this I discovered that there is a great manual by B&S that helps you with the servicing of the engines (270962 - Single cylinder L-Head). This is helping me also in the correct positioning of the throttle leverages that in time were lost (due to incorrect maintenance).

I will let you know in the following days if everything is solved.
Cheers,
Gio
