I am trying to identify this mower for a lady on Facebook.
She has posted several photos but has left the catcher over the motor, which is electric.
Hopefully someone can identify the mower, which I think is American origin as the motor is American.

Hello bellarinelawns
Most definitely NOT American.

This is an Australian Scott Bonnar 18" 'Standard'.
These were made from about 1927 - 1952.

SOURCE: Grant Simpson, Adelaide.

Hope this helps.

I have found good evidence that Scott Bonnar were using Century
electric motors
in the 1930s... Later they would use AUS-
made electric motors.

The implication is that this particular machine was made at Mill Street,
Adelaide c1930s (interwar) and the motor is original.

Maybe the 'Facebook lady' will donate to ODK for the research & identification?
I hope the purpose is not for profit (re-sale) without doing so...
If this is a keeper, we'd love to hear her story.

I'll contact her today and get more information from her. I think she wants to sell it. It's been in her family for over fifty years.

The mower is for sale. They are downsizing and need to clear the shed. She is looking for a value on the mower. She has indicated that she would like to sell it to a collector. I've advised her that I will try to obtain a value via this forum. I'm thinking of a figure that would be suitable for an unrestor ed mower bug I'm thinking that she would want to get a restored $ figure. I usually try to get roller mowers for less than $100 as you usually need to spend a bit to get them into a good usable condition. Any thoughts on the value of this mower?

Here are a few more photos which give a clearer indication of the mowers state. Bit of surface rust. Probably hasn't been used in years. [Linked Image]

Many thanks for more images.

Is she? Are you? I won't be doing this.
I'm a little bit tired of supplying information for questions asked here ...
without basic courtesy - no salutation, nor a simple 'thank you' for the information
asked (by you) and supplied here (by me). How rude!

I hope this machine goes to an appreciative collector.
I have nothing to say beyond that.

Thanks Jack, I've prempted your response and had already told the lady that no one had been forthcoming with a valuation. From other questions and responses on this forum, I sort of realized that you would be the only person replying, which is a pity that more forum members don't actively participate. But I suppose from the tone of your response and your attack on me and your assumed impression of me , that I am not surprised that the forum does not have a lot of contributors!
I offered to buy the mower from her and unsurprisingly she advised that she would speak to her husband about the offer. I think she is greatly appreciative of the information I have forwarded onto her about the mower. I think everyone appreciates forums like this , that they can go to, post a question and get a good response. That's an assumption. The beaten join the silent onlookers.

Originally I would have said $50 but now I think $20 would be about it

I have to agree with Jack as that's a similar way you've treated me in the past and I to get a tad tired of giving my time freely so that others can make a tidy profit from it, thus I always ask what the intentions are before I will waste my time with flippers.

BB.

If you (bellarinelawns) feel this way then maybe its time for you to go to another rival site and enjoy their company as you don't seem to like ours much at all.
