What are people's thoughts on the Victa MSV567 Mulchmaster 560? Is the self propelled mechanism up to the job? A customer has an elderly Honda push mower that is proving extremely hard to start and wants to replace it with a self propelled 4 stroke Victa. They mow large areas of grass in an attempt to make it look like lawn, and don't use the catcher on the current mower. The guard is wired up to prevent the grass blocking. Not ideal from an OH&S point of view! They love the thought of the electric start on the Victa Ultimate, but they would still need to wire up the rear guard to prevent it blocking whilst cutting their heavy grass. They don't want to use a catcher, and prefer a side throw. It would seem that the Victa 560 is the only self propelled Victa that will suit their requirements. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2017/06/full-6946-34700-image.png)

LRT, there was somebody here recently not happy with the Victa gearbox, seems as frail as the Honda one. I have just the belt and bearings in the drive on an Ariens and they are a very basic simple and rugged drive system, I would stay away from any self drive with a gearbox system

According to the local Victa & Snapper dealer, no side throw Snappers are sold in Australia.
Are the ones on eBay 'grey' imports or does the dealer just want to push the Victa?
They also say the Victa 560 drive system is ok if used domestically.

LRT that is the dead give away, the message is in the wording "the Victa 560 drive system is ok if used domestically". That would be enough to make me run a mile. If it has a gearbox forget it. Otherwise look at the Ariens, the drive on them is nice and simple but the Ariens are not readily available. My grandson is using one and he is thinking about importing another one

Yes I had the same thought too! Does the Ariens mower your grandson use have a Chonda? I noticed on Allpower's site the LM push mower is using an Arien branded engine.

The Ariens my grandson uses has a Briggs on it, it is an older one but they are good. I noticed the LM push was using an Arien branded motor but as you would have also noticed nil stock

Yes, they look like a cheap mower compared to the older Ariens. Seems the Snapper on eBay is the way to go.

It looks like Greenfield are going against the trend to market a tough and long lasting mower for Aussie conditions, but they don't offer them as self propelled nor with side chutes. Maybe that is to protect the sales of the self propelled slasher and ride ons? enduro-vanguard-commercial-mower

Been trying to get info on how the personal pace works but information is not very forthcoming so turned the back on them. The disc drive system on the Snapper is probably similar to the Ariens

Hi, I have an old Snapper which looks like the one in the link although now a bit battered with a Briggs Sprint replacement engine.
It has a chute for the catcher which is a bag at the rear. We do not use the catcher at all. We use it as a side throw. It has a sort of windrowing attachment.
It has been very good . The disc drive system seems to work well. What ever you do do not use it without either the catcher or the side throw attachment. It will fling stones 20-30 m at high velocity. There is a safety device on it so it will not start without either in place but that had been disconnected by a previous owner.
Its very old perhaps 70's or earlier. It had a white Briggs 3.5HP (absolutely worn out) on it as the original engine.
All the best Jeff

I've never used a Toro mower, but I've spent many hours using their tracked and wheeled mini skid steers (Dingo) and their Kawasaki powered stump grinder. They are well built machines and last well when used for rental/hire.

Yes Jeff, I'm leaning towards the Snapper since the Victa is only a 'domestic' mower!

Mulch-bastard sounds more fitting.
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

I don't know yet! There are some videos of the 560 but not sure how well the drive lasted. Victa Mulchmaster
