Hi, I've just replaced the engine on my 17" SB45, and looking for somewhere good to get the cylinder and bottom blade sharpened. The bottom blade may need replacing, as it has a nick out of it about dead centre of the blade.
I took the whole mower into a mower shop in Fyans St, and they charged $100 and didn't touch the bottom blade, so I'm looking to find somewhere better.

After watching DeeJay's how to, I'm happy with removing both blades to take them to whoever is recommended.

Thanks

Krusty

Would Melton be too far away? http://www.golfandbowlingmachinery.com/
Wouldn't hurt to give them a call, in any case.

Cheers,
Gadge

You could try ringing around the local bowling or golf clubs.there was a chap at Barwon Heads golf course who was a guru on roller mowers.I'm surprised that Fyans street could do it or put you onto someone. Mowers galore in Grove Dale had a chap doing it, so you could give them a try.Tony in Moolap, moolap chainsaw and mower repairs, can back lap the blades, and he has a sharpening machine, so give him a try. He doesn't do a lot of them, but at least he has a reel sharpening machine.

G'day all
The main thing must be homework.

You must avoid agency work - where folks say they can do
the job, but actually act as agents.

I note that Gadge's link is a good one, but you wold need to
confirm the 'service' is done in their workshops.

Both reel and bottom blade need sharpening.
Avoid someone who fits a pre-ground blade and says that's enough.
Pre-ground blades still require a grind after fitment to the sole plate.

Here's an info sheet ...

Thanks for the replies, I'll check out the Moolap place first. If I have to, I'll make a trip to Melton.

Hello Crusty
Yes, case the joint first.
Gadge has pointed out to me that the Melton place will certainly
have the correct machines - as they are manufacturers.

Please let us know what the result is.
