Hello SpeedyThis happens all too often I don't think the issue of 'diesel' fuel is any different. Dumb folks will do dumb things ... ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2017/05/full-7392-34408-nice_things.jpg) ------------------- Jack

Speedy, I don't think it is worth worrying about the rings, bearing have probably taken a bit of a hiding as well

As Jack mentioned, this happens all too often. I guess it's because the country has gone predominantly 4 stroke and thus most people no longer think about 2 stroke oil at all anymore.
BTW Jack I see you've changed your hair style for glasses.
Cheers, BB.

And those barrels are one of my most sought after because they take the G4/LM carby and I can fit that on the early motors, ditch the cup starter and fit a good Chinese pull starter and you end up with a fantastic little motor to use on whatever

I don't think the issue of 'diesel' fuel is any different. Dumb folks will do dumb things ... As in, misfuelling of diesel cars? With modern common rail diesel engines, that can get seriously exy! Up to $20k, for a current model Subaru diesel, I've heard. The thing to do, on realising that one has fuelled up a diesel car with petrol, is to push it away from the pump, without even attempting to start it! Then call for a tow truck, to take it to a workshop for draining and flushing of the fuel tank...

What numbers should I look for on the crankcase?

Thanks Trev, probably not worth the postage or the effort on your part,I probably have half a dozen here at the moment that I will rebuild when the need arises, usually a hone and a set of rings wakes them up. The beauty of the G4/LM manifold means I just do the carby mod and then they are a fantastic, reliable motor. As for the crankcase numbers I don't know but as far as I know most were on the sidepull motors, but I do have one here on a cup starter that looks original which sort of indicates that the G4 carb may have been introduced before the pressed metal base and the sidepull. I will get a pic of it later this morning, maybe somebody will know what it is, I was planning on using the motor on something else because I don't have a catcher for it which is a pity because the base is in excellent condition. Maybe somebody might want it.

![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2017/05/full-9841-34424-100_6706.jpg) Not sure if it is original or anybody is interested, pity to just strip it for the motor. Just looking at it now it looks quite similar to the Speedy one so this throws up a question what do these bases date to and when was the G4 carb introduced. I thought these low arch bases predated the high arch and had a metal catcher

There were actually two low arch bases sold into the late 1970s as budget/ store brand models along side the higher priced high arch models. It was probably Victa's way of getting extra mileage out of these moulds which dated from the 1960s, before finally ditching them and using their lower priced hi arch base for the cheaper/store brand models. These are a good tough mower but not as desirable or smart looking as the high arch alloy based version.

Well, we do know accurately when the G4 was introduced on production mowers! Late-ish 1975, for the '1976 season'. Here are the Victa Tech Bulletins from then: https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=38908

Ok so this leads to the next question, when was the pressed metal base with the s? idepull motor introduced? I thought that was about 1975, I can't imaging them running high arch, low arch and the pressed metal base all at the one time, but maybe they did

The pressed metal base for catcher Victas was much later on.
Haven't got time just now to research when they first came out, but I'll add it to the 'to do' list.

That my good man is a Victa Commodore the low arch model. There was a high arch model as well. You really don't see many of the high arch Commodores, don't know why.I guess they weren't very popular. It first came out for the 1980-81 season. Not sure if they went later than that. If it was the high arch I might be interested as like I said harder to find.It would be a shame to wreck it,it's base still looks fairly good.In fact it looks in great condition.(and I have been looking closely at it). Not sure if it is original Yep that's exactly how they were.
Here for a good time, not a long time.

Base looks better than the pics show, it has been sitting there probably 12 months now, when I got it as always I checked for spark, no show so I just pushed it to one side. Squizzy it is yours if you want it.

I like that chunkier starter handle. There seems to have been three main designs. This, the more compact one (the most common) and the square shaped one. I have a powertorque with one of these chunkier ones fitted and I love it.
