Hi all, i am new to this forum but i have been snooping for quite a while..
i have had a scott bonnar queen petrol all original but not starting and in need of restoration. i brought this in hopes of restoring her, but after looking through this forum i have found out its one of the harder ones to resto.
I have read that these mowers are quite hard to find parts for and was hoping to see if there was someone in my area that would swap this one for another smaller machine in similar condition that might be more manageable for me, or if someone needed one for parts that i could sell to put towards a smaller one..
cheers

You could try the online store HERE for Queen spare parts. The can supply nearly all the parts that you might require.

That's Awesome, thanks for the link.. i was under the impression that it was near impossible to find parts.
I am hoping to restore it to use on the cricket grounds i curate, but also just because for some reason i have always wanted to resto one.
Cheers

Thanks Jack, do you by any chance know what engine the model 30 came with? The Queen originally came with an electric motor and the parts are the same for the electric and petrol model. The only real difference was the petrol engine that I know of. Note that I have a client that has a Queen that we service and it has been fitted with a Honda engine. He has had a few cylinder mowers in the past and he always says that the queen is the best of the three that he has. This one that he bought second hand has very little trouble with it.

Yes, I think it ran like this. The original Queen was the Model 16 (c1950). It came in two sizes - 20" & 24" - and was sold in petrol (Villiers) and electric versions (24" only). Its application was general or specific - depending on the spec. The Model 30 Queen (c1958) was a specific design - for bowling greens. It was 30" and only came with an electric power unit. My guess is that the Model 16 was discontinued when the Model 65 came on-line. The Model 65 was made available in 24" and 30". These had power plants that were only petrol, and these did include Honda engines. This is Grant Simpson's schema of the SB Queen models: Hope this helps.---------------------- Jack

Well, it's got my curiosity seth040.
I'm looking forward to some great photos to document this great model, so famous, we named a mattress size after it.
As Bruce intimated: the Queen is a quality machine. Many are not being saved because of their large size. Pity.

Hello seth040A very definitive answer from me: this machine is perfectly serviceable. I have looked at your gallery. Parts are obtainable for the Villiers. This is an Australian classic, and well-worth preserving. For info on how to upload images directly to here click HERE. This is a Model 16. I have just uploaded a manual for your machine. The link is the History Record: MODEL 16 Hope this helps.----------------------- Jack

Apart from the motor, the mower itself looks ok for a restoration project. You can always pick up another motor either a new honda or a Villiers if you wanted it to look original.

Happy to spark the curiosity.. Fingers crossed i can get the old girl running. Its a huge machine, luckliy enough i own a lawn mowing business so i have an excuse to have such a big machine Its built like a tank thats for sure. I have very little experience with reels, do you think this one can be sharpened or has it been sharpened to many times? Cheers Thanks Heaps Cyberjack, i am hoping to keep the original villiers engine so this is awesome news.

Hello seth040There is plenty of life in that reel. What we would like to see is an under-shot showing the bottom Block (bedknife and sole plate). -------------------------- Jack

Hello seth040
Yes, great photos. It shows the reel makers' craft at its best.
So, new reel bearings and a sharpen of the reel. You will need a new general purpose (non-shaver) bottom blade and screws.
Please do your homework in finding a reputable sharpener in your area. Both reel and bottom block (with new bedknife) should be sharpened.

I know this is a late reply but this guy in sydney purchased all the stock from rover and the licence, he still has crates of parts only for the queen, he still makes the queen new as well - he also has heaps of atco parts
Mowsharp PH 02 9476 4222 .
don't talk model 33 or 45 to him as he dislikes them and wont support them
