I was in the process of putting the colt 5 back together and noticed some splits in the belts so decided to get new ones small belt was already off but v belt was still on so took off the pulley on cutting deck that holds v belt in place, then noticed there was a bit of play in the cutting deck bearings so am in the process of getting them out ,though stuck at the moment which is the best way to get the bearings out all the other bolts came out fairly easily didn't snap any of them.

See if this previous thread helps. Looks you just remove the spindle shaft then the bearings.

already seen that post so was a bit careful getting bolts out, the nuts on both ends of the shaft didn't get a chance to argue ,just cranked up the air compressor and used my big air gun to get them off 3 squirts and they where off similar with the deck bolts then hand finish off by hand with 2 spanners and wd40
got my 3 legged puller out and tried getting the top part of shaft off wont move ,so put it any for the day may try later drowned it in wd 40 it may help free it up as it's got to come off before the shaft will come out.
that's the part in photo

success ,it actually ended up coming apart very easy in the end ,I did put a bit of heat on it a few days ago ,then went back to it today , I had tried the puller and figured out it ain't coming off that way so tipped mower on it's side [Linked Image]
so with mower on it's side I could get 2 pairs of stilsens on each end of shaft and gave the bottom end of shaft a turn while holding onto top of shaft and it just unscrewed very easily and bearing literally fell out .very pleased with that devilchilli

Had to look-up what a Stilsen was. We call them pipe wrenches here. I do though one looks a like pipe wrench is more like a adjustable wrench as the head doesn't tighten in use other the initial setting and no serrated teeth. Fairly old tool that I found but got a lot use out of over the years on those 2 inch plus nuts and bolts.

Glad you got it a part.

Yep; 'stillson' or 'footprint' wrenches are the most common types of adjustable pipe wrenches, here in Oz.
