Hello all I finally got my 45 that I have been looking for. The engine has been replaced a few years ago and it runs reasonably well for its age.

Below are some photos, please tell me what you think of her.

I also have the original set of instructions for it that has a picture of a Kirby engine on it . Please let me know if you want photos of it for your records.

Thank you

The engine looks noticeably more modern than the rest of the machine.
That disc the engine is joined to, is it a centrifugal clutch or some sort of oil filled flywheel acting like a torque converter in an auto transmission?
What does that black gearstick like knob do?

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

Hello Mowerfreak,

The clutch is a standard cone clutch which is engaged/disengaged by the movement of the lever. The original motor I believe was a Kirby Lauson like on my model 33 which was replaced by the Briggs range later on.

Hello all an update with some more photos. First though I have repainted it and find that it suffers from clutch grippyitus. Let me explain the clutch was still gripping a bit in realise position so I read up on some great informative posts on here and tried to shift the clutch so there was about 10 mm clearance between it and the motor and then tightened the grub screws up and started the mower up and it slipped back to the original position. I have tried to adjust it at the lever but there seems to be a fine line between it slipping when engaged to moving when disengaged. I have it now so that it only rotates when disengaged at full throttle not at idle. Do I need to put some washers between it and the motor? I think that it is an early series 2 twin rail engine because it would have had a Kirby on it originally. Thankyou for your comments/advice .
