Have this Transmission in a STIGA SD9813 ride on.
It isn't shifting as smoothly as I would expect.
Does this trans use oil or grease.
If it is grease I an guessing it is Bentonite.
If it is oil I am not sure on what type.
Anyone know what this trans uses and quantities of lube it needs.
Any other ideas on why the trans may not be shifting smoothly.
I have just replaced the drive belt too.

Dana spec their PN 4300 grease if that helps any.

I know if I was rebuilding the transmission I would be using 00 grease here but that after I have removed all of the old grease.

I'm a bus and coach nut and was surprised to see Dana Spicer mentioned on a mower forum.
They developed one of the first automatic transmissions for American transit buses.
The GM and Flxible New Look buses used a single speed Dana Spicer torque converter transmission with a lock up function that acted as the "second gear".
Fancy their products being applied all the way down to a ride on.
I'd like to see other commercial vehicle transmission makers like ZF, Voith or Allison doing that.

On line research tells me that 00 grease is being suggested.
In the past with other gearboxes that take grease Bentonite is required.
I might try to work out what is in 00 grease and see how this compares to Bentonite.

The mention of 'Bentonite' just means that it is probably a 'semi-fluid' grease, which has Bentonite clay as a thickening agent.

Rather than repeat it here, may I refer you to a couple of past threads, where I've explained in detail the rationale of substituting a modern NLGI 0 or 00 grade semi-fluid grease for the original Bentonite type?
