Hello All, new to this. I have a Victa Cortina Series 70. I think the Victacode is V63. I know it's the 125 cc engine with the G3 carby and the torpedo muffler. Can someone explain the engine number meaning? It is 1 693 1 7 778. I would like to know year of manufacture and possibly Month. I am also after a fuel tank and throttle cable. I have photos but don't know how to attach to this post. Best Regards Renzo

Hello Renzo

From what you have said, this is an original Victa Cortina.

Well ...
The first digit sees to be the chassis application.
It's pretty certain the 2nd and 3rd numbers are the year.
The 4th digit may be the specification change to the engine.
The remaining digits are probably the serial number ...

The source of this extract comes from the Vintage Mowers website.
It is not an original document, but it is what I have used to make
sense of these early Victa crankcase numbers.

That the engine was stamped for the '69 year but has a Series 70 engine means
that the machine must date from the release of the 1970 mower season - that is -
From September 1, 1969.

That's my best guess at this time.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Jack. The picture you posted is about right. The chassis ribs slightly different. Thanks for the break down of the engine number. Much appreciated. Can you also give some guide on accessing a fuel tank & throttle cable as well as the white plastic throttle lever cover?

Hello Renzo
Yes, that Victa illustration does not quite accurately fit reality.

I'm hoping a member can help with that one.

Thanks Jack, The throttle control assy on the right, number 1 is the correct one but I will take whatever I can get. The cable is the 42.1" one. Is there anyone out there that can help with this? Also is it possible to download the parts manual that you took this information from? best regards, Renzo.

Hello Renzo
The Cortina story is a complex one - and it covers many iterations on
that great name. In the mid to late 1960s, the Corvette and Cortina were
the flagship models.

The workings of the 'Green Book' means that there is no collated parts list.
I am working on a record for the Cortina but that is a complex process.

I should be able to have something in a couple of weeks.
Would it be possible to get an image of your old fuel tank?

Cheers

There is a download available of the first section of an early edition of the 'Green Book Vol 1', which has the line drawings and basic model info for 1955 to 1969.
It's here: https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/pages/Victa/Models/Victa_Model_Info_1955_to_1969.pdf

And also the accompanying chart of the VictaCodes for these models: https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/pages/Victa/Models/Model_Info.pdf
