I have a new steering shaft for the Rover Rancher, but removing the steering wheel from the old shaft is proving ridiculously difficult.

The pin holding it there is refusing to budge. I tried hitting it with a metal pin the right diameter to push it through, and have also tried drilling it out (might have to get new, tougher drill bits).

Anyone else have any ideas? Here are pics from each end of the pin.

Call off the dogs, it's all sorted.

All good then Dale.

For future reference, these spring steel roll pins are too hard to be drilled out successfully, with normal mech workshop gear.

The vital things to do, are to use the right size punch, ideally a roll pin punch [discussed in detail in this past thread https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/58638/1.html ], and to have a solid support under the shaft, not the steering wheel hub.

Cheers,
Gadge
