This was my 3rd year going to the Toowoomba swap meet, I didn't get as many mowers as last year but the one I did get is really cool. I hope yous like!







The Pope was my best score, dated 1961, it comes with 3 manuals, the receipt, guarantee card, fuel can and catcher. I need to get a few new wheels for it and hopefully a windrower but then it will be ready to go!
The cutout Victa 160cc is super cool too! Oh yeah and I found some Buz-a-cut wheels.

You've done well there - that Pope looks to be the very rare 320-07, with its original Clinton engine. And catcher!

The windrower shouldn't be impossible to find, as it was common to the 320 series.

Totally concur with Gadge there.

When I looked at it I looked for a vital clue.
It was that the front skirt appears to be bolted on.
[It doesn't have the shark tooth base]

This would mean (from my reading) this is a 320-07,
Pope's first 4-stroke - but the round cowl is not original.
The fantastic receipt makes this a collectible one indeed,
and the date confirms what Gadge and I have said.

And a catcher too! - in good condition.
Just imagine that in beautiful persimmon with white top!

I think you would be very pleased with he Buz-A-Cut wheels.
[They seem to have traces of that blue colour on them...?]

Jack, that round cowl would be original - the 'boxy' cowl front seen on the 320-07 in the other thread is a bolt-on! Might just be missing that bit here.

That was a difference between the 320-07 and 320-09; the other was the type of air cleaner fitted.

I see what you mean there. I never noticed that before ...
The square bit is a dress cowl.

Yes, the air cleaner intake was sure different.
The old and newer design cleaners are shown here...

Yes I knew it was a good one when I realized it had a Clinton. I do need the front cover, airfilter and impulse starter.
I have that same diagram but it is by Clinton, instead of Pope, i'm not sure if it has the impulse starter, I would have to check. I think it shows the pulley that mine has.
There is a little piece of paper with info on the impulse starter inside but it has ripped over the years.
This mower is in an amazing original condition, I will be keeping it in an original condition, just spraying some Lanolin oil and getting some better wheels for it.


Yep! Faided Cobalt blue, as I expected! There seams to be an alright amount of stuff floating around Toowoomba for them, considering I got my Buz-a-cut just down the road.

Great find there Kye! I was going to go to the Swap Meet this year, but the heat got the better of me. Decided to give it a miss. I was thinking of going in case someone had any Southern Cross mowers or parts. Incidentally, I spotted a nice KXD-4 (I think it must have been) at the Lifeline Shop near Toowoomba about 6 months ago. It was getting a few comments from passers by. Amazing what turns up every now and again.

As for your Pope mower, I can't say I've ever seen a mower quite like it, particularly not with a Clinton engine. Excuse my complete ignorance, but were these engines made in America, or only the parts, and then assembled here?

Thanks Vint_Mow!!! It was super hot, you missed out on 3 Southern Cross mowers, 1 cowl, and a manual! They were all sold before I found them. Was a fair bit there.

As for the Clinton engines, I think they were made in America, not 100% sure though.

Yep, they were always US-made, same as Briggs were in those days.
