G'day Greenfielder,
Do you need both shafts?
Has/have the gear(s) worn or are they loose on the shaft? If they are worn, a possible fix (if you have the full gears) is to rotate both shafts 180 degrees and secure the arm back onto the lateral shaft 180 degrees from where it was. Some arms are welded and some clamped. This assumes you have full gears and not sectors. They used both at one time or another.
Unfortunately I don't have a set of shafts off an HD8 that I can offer. I just had a bit of a look at the ones on the Tractor model. They are a slightly thicker shaft (5/8" vs 3/4" by the looks) and the shaft length is slightly different, I think. That said, if you'd like a set of tractor shafts to look at I can post a set to you (freebies). It seems you have access to machining gear so might be able to come up with something. Also, I think at least the later tractor gears are steel, not alloy.
I'm going to have to step up the search for some parts mules, me thinks
Cheers,
P.S. I wonder if steel gears of the type and size your chasing can be bought off the shelf from an engineering supplier? In steel, of course.
