My mother has a Victa Corsair which generally runs ok however lately it has become difficult to start for her although I can start it easily enough but it takes a bit of force. Is there anything that can be done to make it start easier ie require less strength? Also, it seems to require at least 2 pumps of the primer button, even though the carby plate with the primer button (as well as needle) has been replaced. The Victa sticker says one pump only, but I can't recall it ever starting with just the one pump.

The Victa Corsair has a decompresser and the chances are that you could have a fault with it which is one thing that will make it hard to start.

With the primer I usually prim a minimum of three times and put the throttle to the hot start position.

Let us know how you get on with the problem of starting the mower.

Thanks Bruce for your response. Is there a way to tell whether the decompressor is working properly? Also, I have donated to the Board but am unable to view the videos, what am I doing wrong?

The decompressor component did not sit where it's supposed to ie it was loose, rang a mower shop, they said just superglue it in which is what I did, mower worked fine for a couple to times, now it is hard to start and will not hot start. Checked for spark and it's fine, squirted some petrol into spark plug hole and still no start, any suggestions?

Why did you use super glue?

A mower shop gave you that advice. Please name them as I will make sure that I don't take my equipment to them for repair.

I didn't get a response to the question about the decompressor, assumed it was gone anyway, rang the mower shop and that's what they told me they did.

I assume that I need to change the decompressor unit, can I be sure that nothing else is wrong though?

Seriously, I wonder how much they would charge someone for a repair on the Decomp valve that was brought into their shop!!.....especially if the owner did'nt know a lot about mechanical repair......Shudder!!

Ok, so if I rule out everything else, do I need to change the decompressor unit and is that a difficult job, will changing the decompressor make a huge difference anyway?
