Hi all

Has any one ever packed a mower exhaust with stainless steel scouring pads how did it go or should i use anything eles

did it breakdown after time
did it effect performance of motor

let me know plz aussie

G'day crumpet,
Scouring pads aren't going to do much in the way of noise attenuation. Stainless steel wool is sometimes used for this, though.

I've both built and re-packed motorcycle mufflers, and used glass fibre mat packing - readily available through the motorcycle trade.

Are you thinking of packing an existing muffler, or building one from scratch?

I have a brand new Briggs and Stratton sausage muffler so packing it i will be doing

is it normal for the packing to be eroded away where the exhaust gases first enter?
I have a muffler from a 125 that looks like this.


Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!
