Hi all, I am becoming increasingly frustrated with the level of knowledge I have! Engine now professionally re-built and installed, but still cant get it to fire. Carburettor has also been professionally rebuilt and have new decompressor valve. There is still no spark when plug placed against engine. I have attached a photo of my coil on mower, and ignition module. Could someone please advise exactly how to wire correctly as if looking at it, together with relevant earth points. I am certain I have wired it incorrectly. Thanks in advance Signed- extremely disenchanted!

Perhaps, someone could draw the correct wiring on photo and re-post it?

Did you try it with the module wire on the right hand side coil terminal, that is where it has to be, the way you had it the wires were back the front

HI Norm-
good news- I have a strong blue spark! thanks
The problem is IT WONT FIRE! I tied putting some petrol in the cylinder but no good. Shouldnt it fire for a few seconds with a bit of petrol and a good spark?
I hope you have a few suggestions I could try
thanks
John

They won't always fire with a bit of petrol in the plug hole, don't ask me why. My tip is a carby problem because they can be a pig to sort out. If you get the carby right they will start first pull every time. Where in Vic are you?

Ballarat, bit of a bumber, I'm out the other side of Melb near Dandenong. I go through Ballarat quite often and I know how far it is. I don't have any real tips, I have a basic plan I use on each one and work from there. I modify the cam, pack the cam with 3 washers and fit an idle adjuster screw in the cap. This always works with a bit of tweaking. This can be the only reason your motor will not run

Hi Crowster36,
Have you tried to start it without the decompressor installed and a spare spark plug fitted in its place?
Also, do you have the cutter disc fitted? On most small lawn mower engines it is used as a flywheel and they can be very hard to start without the extra flywheel mass.

I use 3 washers that lift the cam 1.6mm, this then fully closes the poppet when you come back to the idle position, then you adjust the screw in to open the poppet enough to give a nice steady idle

Why do they stick out that much?
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!
