Hi, I got this mower from the recycle centre but there are a few things missing-throttle springs for one. It has a mechanical governor instead of the more common wind vane. I can't remember what type of springs it uses to control the speed. I would be grateful if someone could help me out here. Just a picture of the springs from the net would do. The engine numbers are hard to decipher but it has 1111295T as the code number and has Nov 2011 stamped underneath the engine numbers. As always grateful for any help.....again.

Hi Sparker, that spring is almost impossible to get, well not unless you want to pay $20 for the genuine one. I dont have a pic on hand but it would be easier to remove the governor arm and linkage and replace with an air vane governor, You will also need to change the throttle adjustment plate which is held on by the top 3 bolts on the head.
Works just like any other briggs with an air vane governor without the hassle of sourcing the genuine spring, as long as you've got the necessary parts from a donor motor.

I've got a few spare tank and carbys lying around, I'll check later and see if there is a spare spring.

Woe is me... Thanks guys for your help. Aussietrev, it sounds like you should hang on to that spring as a rare part but I am grateful for your offer. I much prefer the wind vane setup anyway.

Bigted just to confirm, I can just disconnect the arm of the mechanical governor, change the plate and use a wind vane governor. The existing mechanical governor can just stay inside the crankcase as obsolete?

With an air vane governor you still need the spring from the throttle cable plate to the throttle butterfly don't you? Otherwise how do you set desired revs? I have air vane set ups amongst the pile and they have this spring, which is the one I assume is missing from the first pic.

Just a note for anyone else doing this: If you don't have a spare cowl from a mower that had a wind vane governor then you'll need to cut out a space in the original cowl for the arm of the wind vane to move. Otherwise it will jam on the cowl.

Yep Sparker, forgot about the cutout in the cowl for the air vane.
Here's a pic of the spring setup on one with fixed throttle speed although the spring is the same. The second pic shows the different springs, the short one being for the mechanical governor and the longer one for the usual air vane governor.

Thanks Bigted. It was a very easy job. Much quicker than looking for a spring of the right type and at $20 would have doubled the cost of the mower. Just had another look at your pictures. Maybe this one was also a fixed speed model as there was no speed controller on the handle either. I just assumed that it was also missing.
