I was given this one in parts with a few missing. I had to put another coil points capacitor plate on . I don't know which item is faulty but it works now. The carb primer bulb was cracked and leaks fuel , that's why the fire extinguisher is there.I use a screwdriver to short out the spark plug and it didn't look good with a spark and leaking fuel. I have glued up the primer hole, hope it works. Had to use another tank, but I will have to put a fuel tap inline as fuel as it drains through the catby. I have to use the electric drill to start it but that's a whole lot easier than pulling a starter that I am missing. speedy ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2016/11/full-8869-30969-thabeban_08_nov_16_002.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2016/11/full-8869-30970-thabeban_08_nov_16_003.jpg)

A friend gave a what he said was an old Victa starter, but mine needs the vertical one. This looks a B and S starter?? I can always use the power drill with a socket to start it. speedy

Speedy that is a B&S vertical pull starter, what you need for the Victa is a side pull, it bolts on the side of the motor

yer I know. My friend retrieved a lot of stuff after the flood and put it in the shed on top of the parts I need.... he's an old cowboy buckjumper and 80ish, he is sorting things out. He mowes his own lawn, doesn't mow lawns for friends anymore, still has a horse and feeds and looks after her. I'll just keep my eye out for a Victa starter. speedy

You'd need a pretty powerful drill to start that with, especially as it doesn't have a deco valve. I tried starting my 160cc utility with an 18v cordless and it was an abject failure with deco in place. I ended up getting another starter fitted from a wreck.
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

I used a Bosch 240 v drill, although the drill was warm after a fair bit of use. I need a decompressor as the end bit broke off the main valve . That initially stopped the mower....

Problem is it is very hard to justify a $30 decomp valve for a mower like this

That two spark plug idea didn't work, It revved with no control from throttle.
I put a decompressor from a power torque on and a carby from a power torque on and it didn't fire , need to see if it's getting fuel. I primed it a few times...
It's good to have heaps of spares to interchange to diagnose the problem. That what I do with computers.... from the kerbside or dumpster.... I can't reveal my real name as I haven't paid much for mowers or computers pushbikes for years....... I'm not a recycler , I'm a rescuer............. cheers speedy

Speedy, the reason it had no throttle control had nothing to do with the 2 plugs, it is because of the stupid Carby design by Victa and that also is the reason it wont start with the other carby off the powertorque. Give the carby a tap on the top and that might make the needle drop, but it is still hard to know if it is priming
