Hi all, I was recently cleaning a victa 125 piston out of a model 5, and cast into the piston just below the hole for the gudgeon pin is cast in capitals TOLSON. I am just wondering if this is some prototype or something.

Hello TRV

I would be most curious to know if this is a standard piston size.

There were a number of after-market suppliers of Victa pistons.
Tolson may have been such a company ...

If Tolson appears on a standard size piston then this may be
evidence that they were an OEM and supplier to Victa Mowers.

I think we can rule 'prototype' out.

Yeah, well I didn't think it would be a prototype, but who knows? On the other hand, when I removed the piston from the block, it had obviously been in there a VERY VERY long time and took the same amount of pressure to remove as a untouched power torque piston. Besides, it would be quite hard to Rebore the block as the transfer ports were just two decent sized holes next to one another with a gasket and a bit of metal on top.

Sorry, forgot to finish that post pt2: which would make you think that if you rebored, it would theoretically alter the performance a bit. How big was the standard size piston by the way, because I will measure it up.

Standard Victa 125cc piston spec is 2.115" diameter at top ring land, 2.120" at bottom of skirt. Standard bore is 2.125".

Reboring these barrels was/is no problem at all. In fact changeover rebore kits are still available through the trade for the Model 1-4, and Model 5.

Cheers,
Gadge

Yeah, The only reason I thought it would be hard because the Transfer ports are very very different to the later model ones.

Just went out to the shed and measured them, and guess what! It's the standard size piston and bore!!

Thanks TRV

Polson was an old, established Piston maker.
It would be highly likely they were an OEM supplier to Victa.
