G'day gml

It is fantastic to see these early riders preserved!
I love the yellow and that stately grill and bonnet.

You will need to help me though.
So ... this is a Super 8 then?

I would like to also ask for comment on those heat vents
on the bonnet. These are not shown in the brochure.

Any info for the record welcome.

G'day folks,
Early 1970's for this one. Superseded by the Mini-Tractor and then Tractor-x series in the mid 70's. For sure, this was still the current Greenfield model in 1973 [family ownership of a Greenfield dealership commenced in that year].

On the bonnet louvre vents, they seem to have appeared and disappeared during the production runs of the HD-8 and Super HD8, apparently without any logic.

Cheers,
Gadge

Morning Folks,

Gadge, is there a difference between a super 8 and a HD8? (Re: my assumption/theory in the old soapbox)

Also, the PTO arrangement?

Cheers,

Yep, there are a number of design differences between the 'Super HD8' [as we shall call it henceforth], and HD8 models.
The most visible of these is the front axle mount. The drive setup is a bit different too, as the Super HD8 runs two belts from the engine - one to the wheel drive, which is constant drive; and one via the front manual clutch to drive the cutter deck or PTO.

Righto; I had to give this some thought, as I've only encountered one of those front-mounted slashers; it was the only one we ever sold - over 40 years ago now!

The Super HD8 PTO setup was very similar to that used on the HD8, as depicted in the HD8 IPL excerpt below.
[Linked Image]

Component #1 here is the same frame used to mount the conventional cutter deck. For front slasher use, Component #2 bolts up to that frame from below. It has a vertical spindle mounted at the centre of the crossbar of the T.

For the Super HD8, a single double groove pulley is fitted on that spindle, as it doesn't need the dog clutch used on the HD8. The 'cutter drive belt' from the engine is fitted to the top groove, and the PTO belt runs forward to the slasher, from the bottom groove.

Cheers,
Gadge

G'day GML

I know I need help, but I find Greenfields attractive machines.
Maybe it is the stately grill ... ?

I think Glo Mod Gadge got me interested.
Your restorations are suburb in my view.

The red one must be super rare.
These are great images of the models.

They have a stately stance about them, they really look the bees knees. As I said, they are worthy of a glass cabinet. Jean will be impressed

I'm gunna print a copy of the First photo and hang it in the shed as inspiration! I've got two weeks off over Christmas so hope to make a start -once I've painted the outside of the house and fixed the fences out the back. And the decals finish it off nicely smile

Well done!

Still keeping an eye out for a G40.........

Morning Gadge, gml and folks,

Firstly, my apologies Gadge. I hadn't noticed your reply to my questions tucked up above the photos.

Basically your saying that the HD8 term belongs to the red machines and 'super' to the yellow ones? That's interesting. I'd been given to think that the HD8 term only started with the yellows as there is no HD8 decals or reference to the term on the IPC for the red girls.

Ah!, a bolt on double pulley. That makes sense. Not quite so easy to fit as the arrangement with the dog clutch perhaps but given the extremely poor sales it's purely academic, I guess.
