Where can I hide 4 Victas in my place where I already have 6 mowres a boat a trailer and some other stuff, my mates shed of course.
Old Claude passed away in Bundy, the family gave me these old mowers.
2 power torques
A6056AA90 Keystart
and AF055AA90

And a 4 stroke utility
and a 2 stroke MN332A9 with plastic carb.


All are not siezed and have sturdy wheels, frames.
So I can't wait to see if I can get them going...

The bottom two are my favourites. Particularly like seeing a Victa decal on a flat decked 70s model for a change!

Speedy do you know if that sidethrow one would have originally come out with a Briggs on it?

Victa offered the Briggs option on Utes from the 1988-89 model year Norm, so it could be original.

Hi Gadge, they always look like a bodge up when they put the motor on them so the pull cord is at the wrong angle, but I guess the base was drilled to suit the Powertorque so it puts the Briggs on that angle.

What about the 2 stroke exhaust cutting visible on the deck? Did they just release it that way from factory without blanking it off?
I'de love a four stroke version of a Victa utility for something different.

Victa just fitted a plastic blanking plug in the deck exhaust slot, on the 4-stroke versions.
P/No CH85985A, which is still available from a few online suppliers.

The Victa utility is a B & S. degreased it hosed it off, took the cover and fuel tank off., Blew off all parts with my air gun......
It had a spark, put it back together, bingo, then mowed the front lawn.. changed the oil and sharpened the blades , oiled the wheels, put a new airfilter in.
Top bearing was worn so magneto moved a little so I sanded off the coil and maggie, and set it at 20th.
Worked.
Then gave it to my mate for christmas........... as some runt stole his massport...
Yer pull cord is on wrong side but it works.

ps once the rain and temp increases the grass grows here 1 inch a day , so mowers are in demand. But I want to keep my favourites.

that model Briggs would be to early for your ute Speedy i think.
Victa would have repostioned the starter to face the rear if it was original.

2 stroke MN332A9 with plastic carb. The Gold coloured one with the light coloured cowl is a 125cc I think.
It's engine no is 02002343 and VI on the other side of the engine.

Hang on, with the ute, it has the prime once only sticker at the back of the base which makes me believe it was a two stroke at one stage. Am i correct??

My thoughts from my first look at it, I couldn't see a manufacturer like Victa putting a motor on 90 degrees out of the accepted position

sorry to confuse, the ute is gone now.....
I'm not sure whether it was a 2 stroke once, maybe.

By the way, i think that that gold victa is a Mayfair. They were mostly 125s I'm pretty sure

Thx mower freak, when I saw that, I realised that it was a dead giveaway and decided to make the it known.

Soooo, how is the Mayfair doing? I bet that delightful 125 purrs like a kitty when it runs.

I have taken it apart, good compression good spark, so I am going to decoke engine..
Base is a bit rough, only one height setting so i am just going to use as a test base for the engine and wait for a base, maybe even a ute. I have just bought gaskets for head , barrel and carby. It was missing a few parts which I have, so that's my project now..

Does the Mayfair have a G4 or an lm???

Most likely a G4 unless it was built after 1980, which I doubt.

I'm confused. Here is a pic of the carb. It has black poppet.

Speedy, what is confusing you about the black poppet in a G4. I haven't tried using a black poppet, I just use the white ones and have no problems

Speedy, from what I have been able to work out is that the G4's had a black poppet and the idle screw in the cap, I assume they did away with the idle screw in the LM's as a cost saving and maybe the different inner profile of the white poppet was to try and achieve an idle

What IS that knurled knob really good for? I have never found it makes much difference in all the years I had one.

Mowerfreak, it works if you modify the carby cam, and then it can be used to adjust the idle. The cam and kill switch design were the result of long lunches at Victa in the design stage

This is what I think killed the Mayfair.
the inner clip that holds that 5mm piece of rod that is mounted on the lower barrel. It has failed and let the rod vibrate loose and I think it fell down and hit the base plate and was shot up piercing the inner side of the muffler.

Guess the mowers performance slowed a bit .

The barrel was smoothe and rings like new.

I guess it was a 1971 model as this is on the barrel.

Burned piston but rings are perfect. I will use them. Just clean up piston grooves , decoke exhaust port on barrel, no lip on barrel.


Can't wait to start work tomorrow , but my neighbour wants me to mow and edge for christmas..... that will pay for a few beers that I use for inspiration..........

I have little experience in pulling apart the engines like you have. 1. What do you use to de-coke the piston crown and head and is it realy vital to do it at all?
2. what is a proper method to remove the old gasket without digging into the metal in the process. I recently tried doing it with a used razor blade on an old powertorque and found it a frustrating experience. I ended up resorting to rubbing the head on sand paper mounted on a sheet of glass to remove all traces!
3. Do you need a torque wrench to tighten the head nuts or is there a rule of thumb method to tightening coreectly, including the sequence?

If the carbon deposit extends down the piston skirt like that, the rings are knackered! Despite what thickness they are - they can lose their spring tension too. For the little that they cost, just replace them.

In addition, by far the best tool for scraping carbon out of ring grooves is a old ring broken in half, with the end ground to a chisel edge.

For scraping off carbon, you need a tool with a bit of length to it, to make it easily controllable. So a razor blade isn't the go at all.

Something like an old wood chisel, for scraping the gasket remnants off flat surfaces, works well.

And a flat tool, with a square ground edge, for piston crowns and such - I make these from sections of power hacksaw blade.

I'll put up a few pics, if you like.

Speedy, what's the serial number stamped into the RHS of the crankcase? That lower half crankcase has the integral bottom seal protector, which is later than 1971.
