G'day Mudrock,

Firstly, can we confirm we are talking about the transmission drive clutches on the drive pulleys adjacent the rear axle and not the clutch at the engine.

If it's the transmission clutches they are supposed to be cork. The overlaying material has been put there in a Dad and Dave repair job. There are several threads discussing the setup of these clutches. That said, they are dead simple.

If it's the engine clutch your talking about be aware they are an asbestos material. I've replaced one of mine with cork on an abandoned restoration project. Moderator Gadge points out, quite rightly, in another thread that this was probably not a good idea and that I should have used a high speed clutch material. I've not put the cork one to the test but I think he is right.

Hope this helps,

Cheers,

gday prd yes sorry I meant drive clutches on drive pulleys upon further inspection and cleaning I found it to be cork glued on top of cork just looked like black rubber that was cut out roughly so your dad and dave repair comment is right. doing some reading over night it looks like instead of shim adjusting to close down the gap they bodged another piece of cork on top so it would drive.... thanks for the engine clutch info mines getting pretty thin. thanks for your help
