Hello ODK History Lovers
One un-recognised Australian addition to the development of the rotary lawnmower
must be the single-point height adjuster a simple method of cutting height
control from a single lever or knob, or whatever.

Villager was not the first, but one of the pioneers in this design field.
Their patent was lodged in September of 1955 just three months after Minter
Mowers June application of the same year.

The Villager patent would be incorporated on their first model, the 16 Standard,
for the 1955-56 season. However, I think the next season required a minor
engineering change the incorporation of a rear axle mounted screw and turn-wheel,
giving a true single point height adjuster. This addition was envisaged within the
scope of this patent.

PART TWO Patent 12254 of 1955
This patent was taken out by J. Meek, G. Dumas, and H. Horner the directors
of Villager Mowers, and the same patentees as for the Twin-Cooling patent
(see Related Reading).

As a side note, the patent clearly expressed the idea of angle of attack in
blade design the advanced blade had to be lower than the retarded blade edge
for best efficiency. This was built into the design.

This patent appears to be very close to the first production Villagers. I also
point out that the wheels, as illustrated all metal billy-cart ones appear
to be similar to the ones on early machines.
