Hey guys, I have a B&S (Quantum?) engine and the float bowl washer-sealer that goes around the nut it damaged. I believe the part number is 271716.

I did a quick search google/ebay and have found some, but they seem to located internationally and postage rather expensive.. even the washer itself is costly...

just wondering, does anyone know what material is used/needed for these washers to work? I can always get washers from bunnings or Buttsworths .. but they're usually steel/copper/other .. not sure if the B&S uses a specific material.. maybe some sort of gasket type material ???

Any feedback would be super.

Have you looked using the ODK parts lookup?

https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/parts-lookup

Ebay prices aren't generally always the cheapest regardless. Most folk hike the prices for your unsuspecting buyer. Any mower shop can generally order you in a part, if not, already on the shelf.

You will need to know the model number of the motor, not just the model name as these parts vary with each model.

Cheers,
Chris

Thanks Chris86 :), I had a look on the part lookup, its the same part # 271716 , though $14.30ea, which, for a small single washer, seems steep confused.

The engine numbers are,

12F802 - 1911 - B1

and

12J902 - 1128 - 01

G'day Widget,

The Briggs washer is a fibre composite material IIRC. So a suitable red fibre washer from the hardware shop plumbing supplies section would work, as would an aluminium or soft [annealed] copper washer.

It's actually cheaper to buy a complete aftermarket carby gasket kit #498261, than the genuine washer on its own. That's the way I'd go.
E.g.

Thanks heaps Gadge, much appreciated smile

Wow, you';re right about the kit, much cheaper... come to think of it, pretty sure I need the air-cleaner gasket too (#795629).. tore when I removed the air-intake box.

Thanks again smile

Yes, you'll need the a/c gasket, particularly if your carby is the primer type; the primer won't work if the air cleaner gasket is damaged.

Take care not to over-tighten the air cleaner base to carby bolts, as the base is easily warped.

Gadge

Might need to get two of the air cleaner gaskets in case the air cleaner is warped. A lot times I used a second gasket with bevel cut ends to make the main gasket seal because of warp air cleaner base. A dab of wood glue holds it in place until cements to the other gasket. A way to keep from buying a new air cleaner base.

The fuel bowl bolt gasket is the same as the Briggs 690618 or the Kohler 2504103S which you may easier access to.
